Re: so we have finally decided about the wedding

It is good that you are getting your dress sorted it out early. One of my daughters bought a dress on line and it was a disaster when she went for a fitting a week before the wedding. It was sorted out by the Australian agent but it was very stressful. She has a dress for sale, very short body, very...

Re: Vows / Readings

I see a lot of ideas floating around on this post and here's another one. What about talking to your prospective celebrants first and finding out how they produce the ceremony and vows before booking? That way you can get a celebrant to match your style and personality. I'm not contending with anyon...

Re: Outdoorsy venues for 350 guests - SYD

You could have a look at Muirfireld Golf Course in North Rocks. I officiated at a wedding there and the staff were very helpful. We had the reception there and it seemed to me that the dining room could be expanded. My memory could be a bit vague, but they might be worth a call.
All the best. :D

Re: WEDDING CELEBRANT FOR ONLY $250!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The original post dates back to 2010 and I stopped advertising $250 weddings a long time ago. It was an excellent marketing tool, but I found it unsustainable. :D

How did you find you Celebrant?

I am wondering how you found your Celebrant. Was it on line, a referral, at a Bridal Fair? I am sure there are some amusing and touching stories out there. I'd love to hear how it happened... :D

Re: What is your Celebrant Costing?

It is almost two years since I posted this. At times I have cringed  and other times I have been very happy. :D I am glad to see that the market is what I consider reasonable. The difference between $400 and $500 is often less than one more guest at the reception, or a nothing on the cost of t...

Checking out your Photographer

I just had an experience that reminded me say that you need to pick your photographer carefully. Here’s the ceremony and the photographer is running the show. He and the side kick are all over the place. He gets the celebrant to move out of the way during the ring exchange. Then during the Un...

Re: Looking For a Stone

Thank you so much everyone for your suggestions. You have helped me with some good leads. Places I have gone, besides your sites and shops have been Crystal and Mineral suppliers, Decorative stonework and Bush Rock suppliers. Last place is rock shelves below cliffs near the ocean. :D

Re: Renewal ideas on a budget!

Civil Celebrants are authorized by law to perform legal marriages. The renewals, namings, committments and so on people get celebrants to do because we are practiced at it and generally do them very well and professionally, but there is no legal requirement. The renewal certificate is a piece of mem...

Re: Photo Locations

I'm going to take you somewhere different... I worked at a wedding reception venue for a few years and saw a lot of photographers working. Many took the bridal party away to get photos but the best of them stayed just there in the gardens. There were just a couple of photographers, and their photos ...

Re: Renewal ideas on a budget!

Dr. Mary Booth Lookout is a little known park on the North side of the Harbour and has beautiful views. I'll put a couple of picture on my FB page. Costs nothing to walk up and have a ceremony, and it is only a short walk from Milsons Point Station. If it is raining, just meet under the Bridge on th...

I just checked on the Hydro Majestic. It is due for completion of the upgrade late 2012. When is your wedding? I expect you could put 160 in a corner of the ballroom  Seriously, have a look at http://www.hydromajestic.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9:a-revitalised-h...

Re: cancelling intent to marry papers

It's pretty easy and there are two things you can do. You can contact the celebrant that they are lodged with and tell them to cancel the documents. Then start from the beginning with the new celebrant. The second thing you can do is to ask the celebrant that they are lodged with to transfer them to...

Re: Why are his children getting under my skin?

I have a blended family 4 of hers, two of mine and 2 of ours. Thankfully the youngest is now 27 and we survived the challenges you are facing. It can be really hard, and I wish you the very best is resolving it all. I have a copy of a DVD and booklet that addresses challenges in an instant family. I...

I am really interested about the wedding itself. Who would do it? Would it really be the captain? And what law will you be married under?

Looking For a Stone

My Bride and Groom are celebrating their wedding with an Oathing Stone. They have their stone but does anyone know where I can get stones for the future. I'm looking for something about the size of an emu egg and polished. Any ideas? :D

Re: the 2nd wedding

I've been to some wonderful renewals and they were taken seriously. Don't be concerned about an off handed comment. Your friends and family that realize this is important to you will come. Renewals can be more relaxed, more romantic. It is what you make it. As for keeping the costs down, set yoursel...

With the photographs, make sure your photographer is using a fill in flash or reflector. You get real deep shadows on the face if the photographer does not compensate.

Re: Role of the MC?

Smallnads gave a great reply. I'd only add this. Your MC should fit in with the professionals. When I worked as a Host and MC at a reception venue, if the party had their own MC, it was a real pain if he/she didn't follow the plan, announcing things when we were not ready and things like that. :evil...
