Re: Appropriate attire??

I'm amazed at how many people wear black to weddings, when there are so many other colours available. Its a personal thing, & maybe my thoughts are more traditional than others, but I would never wear black to a wedding.

Re: Green berries (for in wedding flower arrangements)

Have you tried asking a florist?
Am not sure where in the country you are, but Sydney largest flower market is in Flemington & open I think Mon-Sat. Go there early & see whats available at the moment.

Re: Cocktail Reception

All but 1 of the cocktail weddings I have been too I left hungry (& I'm not a big eater!). Make sure there are decent sized canapes & that what ever platters arent finished, are left on the side for guests to nibble at during the night. Also make it clear on the invites that guests WONT be g...

Re: wedding dress drycleaning!

Mine cost about $250 in Sydney a year ago. It has beading on the shoulders & hip, all satin with a long train. It wasnt terribly dirty though. They said it was the same price to have it in the box or just left hanging if I wanted to resell it. I still thought this price was ridiculous though!

Re: Sydney reception on a budget

I'm not sure if you only want city centre, or are willing to travel? You have to check, but when I was searching, these venues all had options for under $100 p/person. I got married at the Little bay chapel, then only a 2min drive to St Michaels golf club for the reception. St Michaels had fab views...

Re: MC - I don't know who to have??

Our DJ was our MC also. Are you having a DJ or just a guitarist? You can hire an MC only, but would be cheaper if they were already there for something (the DJ, musician, or from the venue etc). If you need a Sydney DJ and/or MC I can recommend the one we had & can send details if you want them?

Re: What to do for first dance?

My cousin did a rock n roll/jive as their first dance. (they met at a rock n roll night!). Its really worth having a few basic lessons ( I think 6 is the usual for a wedding) if you want to feel more confident. I wouldnt tell anyone at all though that you are having a few lessons. If you dont get le...

Re: Are you having a ring bearer/pageboy??

I didnt have any, as the ones I would pick were too young & extremely shy. I know some churches wont allow children uner 5 to be involved in the wedding party, so check that too. I personally think 2 is far too young, but if you do have him involved, have a back up plan if he is sleeping/cranky/...

Re: What everything would you book online ?

I'm from Sydney & got married there, but live in London. I organised majority of the details via the internet & it can be done. I never met or even spoke to the celebrant prior to the wedding. It was all done via the internet. In the scheme of things (& everyone is different), she read o...

Re: Garden Ceremony Decorations

I bought chair sashes from ebay, from a Chinese supplier called 'mystery orient' or 'mystic orient'. Sorry, something orient like that. I bought about 25 and worked out about $1 each. I used them as pew ends, but they were about 3m long & could be tied around the chairs at the end of the aisle t...

Re: Bar tab for 60ppl - how much?

All weddings I have been to include beer/wine on the bar tab, but not cocktails or spirits. The tab will go farther if you dont include these. Our wedding package included unlimited beer/wine/champagne & think it was about $25 extra p/head, but that was part of a package. Check whether you have ...

Re: Anyone planning/been to/had an at-home wedding?

My BIL/SIL had a wedding blessing in England, after getting married in Melb where they live. The actual blessing ceremony was in a church, but the reception part was on a neighbours property that had a barn. A few points you'd need to consider: Is your house big enough to have everyone inside, or if...

Re: Thank you cards?

Agree that a thankyou card is personalised- making mention & thankyou for a specific gift & thanking the person/persons involved. Whereas a tag on a favour is generic, even if it has the guests name on. We had printed stickers on each favour box thankyou guests for being part of our special ...

I found that golf/bowling/RSL clubs offered the best value. Just google which of these are in your area, then look through their websites or call for prices.

Re: Bouquet inspiration

When I went to a florist to start looking at bouquets, she brought out plastic models of different shaped ones. You need to think about what shape you & the dress is in a full length mirror. A smaller teardrop or handtied bouquet might suit a petite girl better, whereas a really long, trailing t...

Re: Bridesmaid Dresses - PLEASE HELP!!

I got my BM dress in Miranda, south of Sydney city at Chloes bridal. There are several bridal & bridesmaid shops within a 5min walk of each other, so you can see alot in just a morning. There is also the westfield there too, but all the bridal shops are outside the westfield. I think 1-2 may jus...

Re: Babies at weddings - your thoughts or tips?

Another thing is to ask the venue if they even have 3 high chairs available! Toddlers may need a high chair to be fed the food their parents have bought from home. Make it clear that toddler/baby food wont be supplied, and also the lack of space. I agree, having the MC make a speech regarding noise ...

Maybe start with a list of what colours you DO or DONT like. I initially based my colour theme on colours I wear often. Mainly because my bridsmaid is a similar colouring to me & knew she'd look nice & feel comfortable in something she too normally wears. Have you googled 'country wedding' f...

Re: Peacock Blue Bridesmaid Dresses - trying to find chair sashe

No idea about your actual BM dresses, sorry. I did order organza chair sashes from a Chinese or Hong kong company on ebay & they were great. Worked out $1 per sash & they had a huge range of colours. The one I used was called 'Orient' something. Sorry, I know thats vague, but I cannot recall...
