Re: Toasting glasses

I bought some because I saw them and wanted them. Then spent far too much time tracking down a pair of them and buying them. Yes, we used them on the night but the venue did have glasses we could have used. Probably money I could have spent elsewhere.

Re: Telling vendors 'Function' or 'Wedding'

If you are going to say 'function' instead of 'wedding' what do you expect to gain from it? If what you want is a lower price, then negotiate for that. If what you want is less of the frills, then negotiate for that. These wedding packages for photographers, venues etc aren't set in stone, it's simp...

Re: Feeling bad turning this supplier down

I would go with what LIW said. Buy some of the candles and pad it out with cheaper candles. I would be thanking that candle maker but also politely explaining that her products are prohibitively expensive. A whole room full of nicely scented candles could be quite overpowering. That's how I would ju...

Re: What to give?

Nah, what goes around comes around. They gave nothing so they get nothing. A pretty card, to put in the wishing well, so it looks like you have given something would be what I would give. Although I like the engraved idea too  Perhaps you could pick something up in the post christmas sales? Jus...

Re: Help! Cholesterol:/

If your doctor didn't tell you what foods to avoid or give you a referral to a dietician or nutritionist I would be going back and asking. That's absurd. I'm editing this post because it probably wasn't helpful to the original poster and a bit harsh. I still think that a return trip to the doctor fo...

Re: Bride without Flowers?

I had a button bouquet. It sits with my other wedding keepsakes and will never lose petals etc. A quick google search and you will find lots of lovely pictures like these ones. I had buttons due to allergies, but it would also work in your situation.

Re: Not Really a Bouquet?

Ring warmings only really work if you have a small group of guests at the ceremony, otherwise you run the risk of not having your rings back when you need them and people missing out on 'warming' them. We thought about it (well, I thought about it  ) and decided not to do it as it would distrac...

Re: Deterring cats from our yard

I had gotten to the point where we had to replace stuff (barbeque cover, chair cushions) because of the cats marking them with their urine. Citrus, tea tree, chilli flakes and even some random stuff I found at the garden centre had failed to stop it. Then we got a dog and the back yard no longer sme...

Re: Wedding Welcome Bag?

I love the idea of supplying your guests with water, tissues, paper fans or parasols if it's really hot etc, but I'm not a fan of the bag idea. I'd just offer these things on a table as they walk in for people to take as they need. I saw on Pinterest programs that come with tissues though, which I ...

Hi ladies. I hope you don't mind me popping in briefly. I was a bride in November 2011 and I want to wish all the 2012 brides a wonderful wedding day! It will be a whirlwind of a day and yes, you will most likely get stressed in the lead up to the day with the 1001 little things that need to be orga...

Re: Epilators?

It hurt so so SO much that I took mine back and got a refund. It left me with a pink blotch for every hair it plucked out, so I looked like a plucked chicken. The next 2 mornings when I had a shower it would sting again and the blotches would come back. Not good. I would not recommend these to anyon...

Re: August Weight Loss Thread

I finally got up the courage to step on my scales this morning. Not great news, I have indeed put back on almost all of the weight I lost for the wedding. Boo. But I sucked it up and went for a swim. It's sad how quickly you lose your cardio fitness, I was all puffed out after 2 laps. But I kept goi...

I am going to say that it's YOUR wedding, YOUR day and you have who YOU want. It's not about calming the situation, it's more about making them see that they are behaving like a 2 year old and that the more tantrums they throw, the less successful they'll be! http://mazeguy.net/bigsmilies/applaud.g...

Re: Planning a wedding... but ive never been to a real wedding!

Well I didn't get corsages for the Mother of the Groom or Mother of the Bride because I didn't know you 'should' and my Mother will never let me live it down. Apparently the Fathers of the bride and groom need buttonholes (flowers for the button holes on their suits) and the Mothers of the bride and...

Re: How do you run your budget / finances?

It's full on transparency here. DH is used to running a very tight budget and uses an budgeting/tracking program (called quicken if anyone's interested) because of his debt structure. Makes for some creative accounting for surprises though. So when we moved in together we got a joint account that re...

Re: August Weight Loss Thread

I got really disheartened because TTOTM is at the end of the month for me, so I'd be losing then I'd gain again and finish the month basically where I started. I'm not doing great, but not too bad either. My exercise has been constantly lacking but I'm making some better choices with food ...
