Re: Help please!

Sounds strange but have you considered a picnic? I organised a magnificent wedding where they had a picnic in the grounds of their home. All of the guests received a basket containing a picnic rug, cutlery & crockery, mini champagne, bottle of wine, snacks, gourmet rolls, cheese plate, chocolate...

Re: Music - do you select EVERY song?

Dont try to pick every song. My best friend did this and it was a disaster. The DJ did the right thing by sticking to the list, but the songs they had picked werent fitting in with the crowd on the night. There were heaps of oldies dancing but a lot of modern songs (every time they came on half the ...

Re: Mother in Laws

I put my MIL in charge of the bomboniere, asked her to come up with 4 suggestions (i told her the colours and the sort of thing i was after) then we went shopping and bought them together. We then had a night where she, her sister and I all put the bomboniere boxes together (and she paid - bonus). I...

Re: Kids at the reception

We set up 2 couches at the back of the room at our wedding, we had 6 kids 10-4 and 6 kids 4-10. They just hung out in the back and played (we had colouring books and some DS' and leap pads) and then all hit the dance floor once the music started. They sat with their parents for the meal so we didnt ...

Re: How many gifts for gift registry?

If you are just doing a registry, pop 1/3 more gifts than people. Make sure you include various items in different price ranges too, say from $30 - $400 that way people can combine items they like and get several things - also helps the single people who don't usually spend as much as a couple.

Re: Odd to have a father/daughter dance, but not a 1st dance?

When you do your grand entrance get FH to go straight to the dance floor, give you a spin and one twirl and both bow or curtsy before going to your seat. That way you at least hit the dance floor with him - if only for a second or two. At the traditional bridal waltz time you could then do a dance w...

Re: How to overcome my feelings about NOT being married?

I understand the idea behind the woman proposing however I am not sure it is the right thing to do in your situation. He has made it very clear several times that he is not ready to do it yet. You proposing will only do one of two things, either you will force him to say yes or he will say no. Propo...

Hi, did one of these similar ones last year. There were lots of exhibitors but hardly no couples. In 4 hours there were about 6 couples so a big waste of time for me

Re: eBay Marquee?

We bought one of these for my brothers wedding as a backup for bad weather. It ended up pouring rain all night and the marquee held up really well. They are a bit fiddly to put together but all of the poles ect were numbered and there was a diagram to follow. It took 2 people about 20 mins to put up...

Re: Opinions wanted

Such a hard situation. My cousin was in the same position with her Italian in-laws. It seemed every wedding decision was a battle from beginning to end. She ended up compromising a bit (ended up with 400 people which was not her choice and an Italian band) but she put her foot down on the things tha...

Colours are really popular at the moment, the brighter the better. We have sold way more coloured ribbons than white this year - particularly hot pink and black (looks great on the white cars)

Re: What has annoyed you about other peoples weddings?

Long speeches are the worst. Do you want to remember your wedding day as over an hour of speeches. The guests get bored, the meals get cold and a whole lot of dancing time gets wasted. I sat through a wedding where the grooms father started his speech with "when we found out that my wife was ex...

Re: Videography- to do or not to do?

I have seen some shocking videographers. I have worked with almost 50, most of them are creating shots to fit within their standard editing (every wedding video turns out looking the same). I have actually seen a videographer ask a bride to get back into the car and re exit 3 times because he couldn...

Re: Cost of catholic ceremony

It is basically a donation for the priest. There is no set amount however $100 would be the minimum for the priest separate to the church hire. Remember a celebrant would cost you around $400 so that would be your upper limit.
