Re: May 2013

it has its advantages getting married in the wedding "off" season lol we are having a lunch reception at the hotel across from where we are getting married, because its in quiet season, we are getting a private room at no cost, and they have offered discounted accomodation to the guests if...

Re: Gifts for the family

never heard of that happening before, when all my sisters got married it was just a nice thank you for raising a lovely person to the each parent from each other, even the big fancy italian wedding didnt give each other gifts. lovely thought from your mum though, and yes I would let FMIL know as she...

Re: Guest paying for their own meals ... thoughts?

well said flowerpower my comments were not meant in a mean way, just explained what we did from past experience and there is no pleasing everyone and I agree with what bec has posted. I personally get more offended when people ask me to contribute money to a wishing well or a honeymoon fund, but the...

Re: Guest paying for their own meals ... thoughts?

I have been to a few wedding that have had this request and personally its not an issue for me, I dont feel offended by it (I find it harder dealing with a wishing well and expected amounts). my first wedding we had a bbq lunch that we catered for ourselves (on a very strict budget) and yes it was a...

Re: Long Wait Until Wedding Day

we met july 2010, engaged feb 2011 and will be married may 2013, doesnt really bother me, we have postponed the wedding twice but this time its set in and we will get shot by our adult children who are travelling from interstate if we tried to change it again, but everything is locked in for that da...

Re: Seating Plan OR pick your own seat

ours is a informal lunch with just a small group so no seating plans my son had tables allocated for everyone but no name cards on the tables so you could sit at any seat, that worked out well as there was still the organisation of the tables and the right number of guests per table but not the rest...

Re: Telling vendors 'Function' or 'Wedding'

have told most of the vendors it is a wedding, when I was booking the venue for the lunch I told them it was a wedding but not a formal reception, just lunch and they booked in as a group booking rather than a wedding reception, cut out a lot of cost and because it is such a small group it wasnt wor...

Re: Wedding Gifts

it personally wouldnt bother me and it wouldnt alter what I had chosen to spend on them in the future. I have been in that situation of not much money and a baby on the way and a couple who insisted that there would be NO presents whatsoever and if anyone gave them a wrapped present they would hand ...

Re: There's always one......

my son has the opposite, his fathers new girlfriend got upset that I got to hold my grandson who was a baby in arms, while my son and his wife got married, apparently her and my ex husband were annoyed that I, the grandmother, was asked to do that. they made a huge fuss about it and while I understo...

Re: What part of Weddings do you dislike doing?

there is nothing so far that I have not liked doing, but its a pretty stress free wedding. the thank you cards are the one thing I am looking forward to, we are having a very small wedding and all our guests are flying in for it so a hand written note from us is the least we can do as a gesture of t...

Re: There's always one......

sounds like my mother, she sulked and carried on at my first wedding, insulted guests and my new inlaws and then blamed me for everything. I didnt speak to her for months after the wedding. this wedding shes getting a token invite, I know she wont attend for many reasons (she is at the beginning sta...

I am sure the tuxedo idea for your FH will fit in ok

I personally don't feel weddings need a theme, being a wedding is enough for me :)

Re: Help: Harry Potter Vs. James Bond Theme????

something like this pic can look lovely
add some draping for a twinkling light effect, or add some coloured globes and have them changing colour at different times. Lawwa has a point about naked flames and venues, so many dont like that these days.

Re: Help: Harry Potter Vs. James Bond Theme????

think it would be a bit hard to suspend candles in the air and have moving pictures so maybe some nice tall candle holders etc.

Re: How much would you spend on a wedding pen?

well today I received a parcel from my youngest son, have been telling him all the plans for the day and he very kindly bought a beautiful feather pen with a butterfly holder to match the theme, because as he said you cant just have a cheap bic's pen mother. Hes such a gorgeous boy, this is the same...

Re: How much would you spend on a wedding pen?

we are having a congratulations book, for everyone to write in, but will just have a normal pen for that, when I signed the paperwork with the celebrant, I said ohhh this is a nice pen is it the one you use at the ceremony, he said yes then quickly said unless you are using a fancy one, told him nop...

Re: Bridal waltz/first dance - anyone NOT doing this?

nope not having one, its a low key lunch so really dancing wont come into it, though FH has said when we get home he will slow dance with me in the lounge lol we arent having the garter toss or bouquet throwing or speeches etc. I am not into routine dances either, so would never even think to do tha...

Re: What is a first look?

alot of brides meet their FH before the wedding so they see them in their bridal outfits before walking down the aisle some people do it with their dads too, it just captures that moment of them seeing you for the first time. my first look with be with my sons, FH is being very traditional and wants...
