Drinking red wine at reception?

Thu May 28, 2009 10:27 pm

I drink red wine most out of all alcoholic drinks. And we have got some wine I love, for our wedding. But I am a little nervous about the potential spillage problems. Has anyone spilt red wine on their dress at the reception? Does it come off?

I'd suggest learning forward to drink this. Also have a napkin on you lap maybe to catch any of if does fall. Wont stop any tipsy/drunk guests from any accidently spillage tho

even tomato based sauces... There was a suggestion in the think the thread about the emergency bag to pack talcum powder. Apparently that will help soak up some of the liquid as well as still being white and less noticeable on the dress IYKWIM

My DH had some red wine at our reception, and I told him to be VERY careful with it! I drank only white and champagne, which I prefer anyway, but I didn't want to get the red wine stain on my teeth and lips either.

id cross any potential staining drinks, however, offering it all your guests bar the bridal table is a good idea. im sure people will understand either way xo

I normally drink red wine (I'm a Shiraz fiend) but the night of my wedding I wasn't taking any chances.... so I got a special bar tab set up and drank Vodka, Lime and Soda all night. :D

Apparently though red wine stains are lifted when you put white wine over it. But I wasn't taking any chances!

I hadn't even thought about the teeth and lips thing 8O but i always have stained teeth and lips when I drink red wine! And my teeth are really obvious! Mental note, no red wine or red drinks for the engagement party!

I drank champagne all night, but that's because I'd had a glass during the canapes and I don't like mixing my drinks.

I didn't even think about the possibility of spilling red wine, to be honest. I'm sure others on our bridal table drank it without any incident.

If you enjoy red wine more, then I would say go for it. It is your special day, after all. Unless you and your guests are really big drinkers and are known to get a bit messy, then I'd say the risk that you'll stain your gown is pretty small.

Maybe just put a napkin on your lap whilst sitting at the table so you dont' spill. Otherwise i would just be very conscious of not spilling.

Keep a bottle of soda water handy, just in case.

I had a red wedding gown so i didnt care lol but i would suggest not having it, i mean you may be very careful but everyone else around you is not, you will not be sitting all night you will be up and mingling, you may be walking around with a glass or other people will be walking around and accidents do happen!

Hi all,

i used to work as a waitress and i used to have to wear a white shirt. I got a whole lot of red wine on those shirts and I can tell you from experience that there is only one way to get red wine off fabric without resorting to bleach (by the way, this applies to wet and dried wine stains):

1. wet the wine stain
2. rub salt into the stain
3. pour boiling water through the salted stain

I guarantee that will get red wine stains off your clothes. (try it with a scrap piece of fabric if you want to test it out)

However, i wouldn't want to do it to a wedding dress
