how to chose jewellery and shoes

Fri May 29, 2009 5:40 pm

Just wondering how to go about chosing the right colour shoes and jewellery to match my dress

My dress arrived yesterday but Im wondering how I work out the jewellery, especially if I purchase these items from another store?

How will i know that the jewellery will suit the neck line, and how will i know the colour of shoe is exact?

Sorry probably sounding like a stupid question! lol

just wondering how everyone else did that becaue it would be impossible to drag the dress around to check lol

I didn't even think about matching, to be honest  I bought my earrings and bracelet before I bought my dress. They just happen to go well together.
As for my shoes, I have 2 options. Deep satin purple with diamonte shoe clips, or glittery heels. They don't necessarily go with anything, but I love them. And you'll hardly see them anyway IMO, except for the photos.

I was lucky and found the shoes that I wanted before my dress (I always knew I wanted pointy - toed satin covered shoes) so as soon as I had chosen my dress, I got a fabric sample from my bridal store and took it along to match it to my shoes.

With my jewellery I found what I wanted on the Stephanie Browne website and found a stockist in Brisbane (which happened to be the same designer as my wedding dress, so the ladies were able to help me match it perfectly) and I was done!

Shoes are easy because anything goes whereas jewellery is more of personal taste. My dress was almost off the shoulders so I didn't need a necklace so I concentrated on having earrings with impact.

The shop I bought my dress from gave me a swatch of the fabric, I'm hoping I can use this to match my shoes.

I Havn't really considered jewellery yet, but perhaps it would be worthwhile trying on some necklaces/earings you already have to get a feel for what you feel would work best size/lenght-wise?

I picked my shoes before the dress. My shoes are pure white and I knew my dress would be white so they go together :) If they are slightly different shades of white or whatever colour your dress is the only person who will notice is you ;)

Jewellery, well I bought earrings and a necklace before I bought my dress, lol. Then I decided a long time after I got my dress that the jewellery was a little too much so opted for something different. But because you know your dress and how detailed it is, you should be able to see whether you need a whole lot of bling or something dainty :)

Good luck with it all

I bought my earrings before I bought the dress! There wasn't much to really "match" anyway. And the shoes - I didn't really care about. I had a white white dress, but most bridal shoes were either in ivory, didn't fit me, or tack-o-rama. So I bought silver shoes. No one saw them anyway!!!

I actualyy have a photo of my dress on my phone. If I find something that may match I whip it out just to confirm. For my shoes I had them before we were even engaged! My fav shoe store was closing down so I got them 40% off. My jewellery is just plain silver

I guess you need to decide whether you want shoes that match the colour of your dress or be a complimentary colour. I bought my shoes before I bought the dress, primarily because I wanted a certain size and shape to the heel. I went for silver shoes with lots of diamontes as I wanted shoes that I can wear again.

Jewellery was harder to find. I make a lot of my own and planned to do so, but I bought pearl earings first that I loved and then once I bought the dress, I decided that a simple chain with a large dangling pearl would suit it as there is a lot of beading on the chest. I ended up with a necklace that had two large drop pearls.

My FH is my height so I needed flat shoes. Finding dressy flat shoes is hard but I found some gorgeous silver ones with diamontes that are perfect. I also didn't want white. I got another pair of purple shoes as they will match my flowers. They are heels so will only wear them for the shots before the ceremony.

Jewellery is hard. Generally speaking one piece should be dominant. Like big earings and a tiny necklace or no necklace at all. If youe dress is very beaded having a full on necklace could be too much. The same with some halter neck dresses. The best thing would be to get some pics and put it in the polling booth :D

It can be hard if you dont have a swatch of fabric from your gown to match shoes exactly. I had my pink shoes made to match
my gown, but I also can recommend a man who dyes shoes if you need. As to the jewellery, I think the key to wedding jewellery
is " to keep it simple" and you cant go wrong. Remember "less is more". The bodice of my gown was heavily beaded so I didnt
wear a necklace and I think that is good rule of thumb. I would probably choose a simple single diamond or diamonte on a chain
or a string of pearls. I had long earrings has I have a long neck and a matching bracelet all of swarovski crystals to match my tiara.
Once you make the decision to have gold or silver jewellery I think the choices wont be as hard as you are imagining. If you go somewhere
that specialises in wedding jewellery (Ican recommend a couple of places in Sydney Rd Brunswick) you could always ask if you can exchange them
if they dont go with your dress. :D

I used the fabric swatch from my dress to match my shoe colour. It isn't exactly the same but so close no-one will notice unless they get down on their hands and knees to check

Jewellery was pretty easy for me as I don't like wearing necklaces so it was always going to be earrings. My parents had a simple, classic pair made for me from my grandmother's pearls so that was pretty easy too. My hair decoration has pearls and crystals which match the earrings and decorations on the shoes. The base colour for each piece is silver which matches my rings. So it all ties together one way or another. And each piece was just something which I really liked.
