Stamps on RSVPs??

Sun Aug 01, 2010 2:28 pm

I'm getting close to sending out my invites and was wondering did everyone put stamps on their RSVP cards/envelopes to be mailed back? I was planning to put them on our guests we dont see often but does it really make a difference to making sure people respond by the RSVP date? I'm dreading having to chase people up for RSVPs but I have put the due date 8 weeks prior so I have time but I just can't believe how rude some people can be by not RSVPing especially for a wedding!! :x

We printed the return address on our RSVP reply envelopes included with our RSVP cards, but didn't include stamps. In the end, out of 150 odd people invited, I only had to chase up 4 people.

We also found a lot of our guests hand-delivered their RSVPs, so the postage cost would have been wasted.

I think adding stamps will risk wasting a lot of stamps TBTH. People may not send back the RSVP card and opt to phone you or send an email.

We put in RSVP cards in self addressed envelopes without stamps. Of 105 invited, we got back 80 and our RSVP date was yesterday.

I didn't put stamps on because I didn't want to waste money because I knew some would hand deliver and some wouldn't send them back. As much as I would have liked to have them all in writing it is looking like we will have to make some calls this week and accept verbals. I don't think putting a stamp on the ones we didn't get back would have made a difference to whether or not they posted it.

Im not doing it for the same reasons as the others - a lot will be handed back im sure.

The way i see it the stamps on the invite are my responsibility and the stamps on RSVP plus taking the effort to return it is the guests' responsibility - which is not too much to ask in my book. Plus they are getting expensive these days - I can think of heaps of things id rather spend $78 on.

Hmm, I was planning on putting stamps on mine, but after reading some of these comments I think I will reconsider. I am setting our RSVP date about 6 weeks before, so I will have time to chase people up. And I'm planning to not accept verbals, I want all the cards to come back!

Same as Kylie. We had alot of interstate guests so I wanted to make sure we got replies back and even the people who we see weekly sent their replies back. I still have them :) They are in my special wedding box :)

I'm all for printing / writing the return address on the RSVP envelopes and including a stamp. It's a small thing in the scheme of planning a wedding, but it's a nice touch and all for a relatively small amount of $$$. Even if you have 100 guests it will generally only mean around 50-60 envelopes (due to couples / families) so around $30 for every 100 guests. Small change in the scheme of a wedding.

Also for parents, brothers sisters, or people you see regularly of course you may not need to include a stamp for them.

I received an interstate invite which included an addressed/stamped envelope for return, and I will admit it did make RSVPing a lot quicker, in that I didn't have to hunt for an envelope and make a special trip to the post office to buy stamps. I pretty much filled it out straight away and had it sitting on the bench ready to go the next day!

I completely agree with this. I never have stamps and would have to make a special trip to the post office. And while clearly this isn't a big deal, it just makes it easier for your guests to simply fill out and send back. I'll definitely be putting stamps on mine, I think the $30 postage that may be wasted on RSVP cards for my wedding would be the least of my worries regarding my wedding costs.

We put stamps on our Engagement party RSVPS as I know how slack my friends can be.
We got majority of them back, but some people didn't bother sending.

We put stamps on ours as I thought it would encourage people to respond quickly. We received all of ours back- 3 were late but we didn't have to chase them up. I have kept them all and it was surprising how many people wrote a little message on the back of the cards.
