Stretching wedding shoes?? Please Help

Mon Aug 16, 2010 2:52 pm

HI Girls,

Ok so i have bought Alan Pinkus shoes 'Emma' about 5 months ago and they are really tight around my toes - so tight i cant wear them.
They are leather lined but with silk over the top of leather.
I really cant afford to buy new shoes.
I dont really want to do the wet newspaper trick because of the silk.
Can a cobbler stretch them?
Please help me...

My FH works at Mister Minit and they can stretch them if they are leather and don’t have too much stitching... Its not 100% and each shoe is different some stretch half a size and some may stretch less... but i think the max is 1 or 1/2 a size.

hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply.
I dont need the length stretched - just around the toes strap.
The actual lenght is perfect for me.

I don’t think they can stretch one way.. I tried to get him to do it with some boots I had that were a little tight across the foot but it didn’t work.

Maybe a cobbler is your best bet.. or you could ask you local shoe repairer they are in most shopping centre these days..

Being leather-lined, you should be able to use a stretching spray without any problem. Spray the inside of the shoes (not the outside) where it feels tight, and then put your feet straight into them so that the shoe softens up where the pressure is against your foot. Walk around in them for a while to give the leather a chance to stretch.

I've used this one before on several pairs of my shoes that were a bit tight when they were new, and it's worked really well. You can get it from those cobbler/key cut places inside major shopping centres, and a few shoe shops also stock it. It cost around $8 when I got it.

Emy, where are you located? let me know if you are in WA as I know a really good wedding shoe maker that could possibly stretch them for you. I had to bring my sister's to him and he did a wonderful job.

'Almosthere' (see her Show and Tell) had to have her shoes stretched also. She had hers done at a Mr Minit. Any shoe repair place should do it. It cost her around $13-$14.

You just have to be really careful with them being silk, I would go back to Alan Pinkus, they make some of their shoe in Australia still (well they did recently) I wouldn't go to a chain place as they may damage the silk. My trick is to get someone with a bigger foot (i use my mum) to sit with my shoes on for 1 hr. the heat of the foot works really well.

The best advice I have ever received about streching shoes, is to do your vaccuming in them... seriously. The motion you make while vaccuming is the same is what you make while dancing (the rocking back and forth from heal to toe). Try it out... but do it pretty far in advance (like maybe a month or so).
