Bridesmaid dress for under $100 - is it possible?

Sat Jan 15, 2011 3:03 am

Hi everyone,

I just had the budget chat with one of my bridesmaids and she has just told me that her budget has changed and she would now only want to pay about $100 for her dress. So far, in the bridal boutiques we've visited together, the cheapest dress they liked was nearly $300.
Anyone know if it would even be possible to get dresses for 3 girls ranging in sizes 10 to 24 for about $100? Or should I look at trying to pad out the budget to chip in part of the cost for the BMs dresses to get something suitable?
I'm looking for something elegant, for a garden wedding, probably just below the knee and not too low cut...

TIA

Try Myer alot of girls have been able to pick up their BM dresses in there and they come in a range of Colours, other stores like Noni-B's could also be useful, If you only want to pay $100 then stay away from boutiques and head to retail stores!

I agree with Abbie. Stay away from boutiques and look in retail stores. You're more likely to find dresses under $100. Good luck :D

Definitely concentrate on retail stores like Jacqui E, Forever New etc. I bought my BM dresses from jacqui E - and they've all worn it again!

You could also consider having the girls wear a similar colour palette, but different dresses - I've seen it done in lots of pictures and it can look fantastic. This way each girl can pick her own dress and budget...

Yes getting to a size 24 is definitely going to be difficult for you.

Places like Jacqui-E and Forever New will only go to a 14 or 16 at the most.

City Chic will go higher, but only start at a 14 or 16 I think.

Dream Diva (online) often have lovely plus size dresses but once again their smallest size is a 14 I think.

Try this website http://www.natashamillani.com.au/Default.aspx

The gowns are copies but I bought one from ebay made on this site and the quality was really good.

For a friends wedding we get our BM dresses from Myer on sale for $50. We didn't know they were on sale, and the original price was $100, so it can work out well, just not from specialised wedding or bridesmaid stores.

Great ideas, everyone!

Yeah, the size ranges are making it more difficult to buy retail. I will have a look in stores like Myer, etc. next time I am at the shops.

Thanks for the website StephMT, I've found a possible dress on that site when I looked today. :D

In case other people are looking as well, I found this site in my searches today: http://www.lightinthebox.com Don't know if it's been mentioned on this site already, but they seem to have a lot of dresses for around $100 each. It looks like you can order custom sizes too. I'm not sure what the shipping is like though, I think you have to go through the shopping cart process to find out costs. Still, I've picked out a few to show my BMs...

Absolutely!
You can find them. Don't be discouraged. Typically, in retail the biggest sales come in mid February. That when people have finished with their after christmas exchanges and gift card redemption, so retail stores are eager to keep the steam rolling. You can find great deals online, we know because we slash prices in our store too at this time. However, online will be a bit of a challenge because shipping prices will get in the way of this kind of budget, also sale and clearance are often not returnable items so they will be best bought in person where you can try them on yourself and feel confident.
