Eyelash extensions

Wed Jul 27, 2011 11:59 am

Did anyone get, or planning to get, eyelash extensions before their wedding? I booked in to have it done, but then I found out that you can't wear waterproof mascara on them, so now I'm not sure. My natural lashes are quite light and redish (like my hair), so I'm worried that the extensions won't look natural, especially without mascara on - and I won't risk non-waterproof mascara for the wedding! *lol* The extension lady suggested having my real eyelashes tinted before having the extensions put in. Would this solve the problem? I'm worried that not wearing mascara on the wedding day will make the make-up look unfinished.

I'd love some input or personal experiences! Thanks! :D

I got this done by my make up artist. I already have dark eyelashes and did wear mascara as well but I'm not sure if it was waterproof or not!  I didn't have any issues with it though and they really made my eyes stand out in the photos.

I'm getting them. There's quite a few things to consider:
- Firstly, it needs to be a very, very reputable place with a very high quality product. I am using the place that runs the formal training for Western Australia and using one of the senior trainers (training that specialises in eyelash extensions only, not a beauty school). I've seen some awful jobs that look terrible and very fake and the person who had it thought it was a good job, so even be weary of word of mouth. Look for training through a specialist school for extensions, and make sure it's a common specialist school too. The extensions should be attached to each individual eyelash (natural mascara look is usually about 75% of them), not to multiple, and the glue should sit very neatly along the eyelash, not in blobs. The glue should blend in too, the place I go to use a glue in the exact colour of the eyelash as even clear glues show up. Research very carefully. Bad applications the glue is visible in blobs, the lashes aren't applied evenly and in some cases your real lashes will fall out or get damaged - not a look you want for your wedding. The brand of lashes the salon I go to uses is The Lashe which are really nice.
- Get a trial done, and if you don’t like it, keep trying. Even different places.
- You shouldn't need any mascara with them on, when I get a natural set put on it still looks like I've got a good coat of mascara on. If you want a really big look, they can do the lashes to 100% of your existing lashes which means it'll be very very dense, like the density of falsies. I don't even use the mascara they sell at the salon that is water based. I buy an eyelash sealer which is clear and makes them last much longer, and because it's clear it doesn't matter if I cry, and it wipes off that layer of eyeshadow that sits on my eyelashes after I apply it.
- Since the lashes are glued to yours, you will still see the red lashes so tinting them will help it blend in.
- Follow the lash aftercare carefully. It's what will prevent them falling off.

I used to get them done frequently, however over time they made my lashes really sparse. It made me look sick having no lashes. :( It may be ok as a one off. but I think I will just stick to strip lashes for the day.

The reason I would rather not have falsies on the day is that I've seen a lot of people's lashes come loose during the day, and that's definitely not a good look. :?

No, not all. But if you get someone good to do it then there shouldn't be any issues.

I agree, a good make up artist would be able to apply strip lashes - no issue. Celebs wear them all the time for events, and I put them on myself on occasion, so far no mishaps.

I was wondering about this aswell.

i am going to the cook island and will be spending alot of time in the sea. I wont be able to get them done there so would have to get them done before hand. Am I better off just using falsies on the day.

I really want to get some done they sound awesome.

I have decided to have another make-up trial and have her put the individual falsies on me, and I'll see how that goes. The extensions might be too much fuss beforehand.

ive had the falsies on a few times with mascara as well and ive got teary and it hasnt run so i think you just need to get a reputable person to do it and you wont have a prob love the look the extra lashes give

BUMP can anyone recommend a reputable place in Sydney? I have only seen them done in the 'nail' places around here and I am not sure of the training that these girls have received.
Thanks :)

I got them for my wedding and cannot reccommend them enough.
I do suggest you only get them on a couple of days before the wedding at the most because some of them may fall off. I have had them on for nearly 3 weeks now & still have at least half but one eye has lost more than the other.
I asked my mua about falsies and she said they can be annoying and my sis said she ripped hers off before the ceremony when she was bm at her sil's wedding cos they were such a pain.

Just feedback after the fact, I used the Beauty Image (in Perth) extensions and they were fantastic! No one could tell they were fake, even the make up artist was tricked! They are the individual glue on lashes. Each one fell off slowly (I got 4 weeks out of them, woo hoo!) so they gradually went back to normal without loooking weird. Now I want them all the time.....

I got eyelash extensions for the first time about a year ago for a wedding I was attending. I am addicted and get them refilled every four weeks! My eyelashes are quite short and light so they make a huge difference and I never have to wear mascara. The only problem I have found is that you have to make sure you clean your eye really well if you wear other makeup (ie eyeshadow) without rubbing too much as this will loosen the lashes. And it adds up getting them done every month but I love them, most people don't notice, it's only when you get really close they look a bit darker than my real lashes.
