Do you have a will?

Thu Sep 08, 2011 10:28 am

The Salvation Army has a great opportunity for people who are in need of a will or an updated will.

The cost is $40 per person with money raised going back into the local area. Local solicitors donate their time for the day.

They are being held from 8am - 6pm (20min appt):

Wed 28th Sep - 15-24 Hely St Wyong to book 02 4325 5614

Tues 11th Oct - 3/24 Hudson St Hamilton to book 02 4929 5273

Thurs 10th Nov - 112 Gipps St Dubbo to book 02 5809 9948

One thing to be aware of with free or cheap wills is often the association that prepares them takes a significant cut of the estate for administering the will/probate process.

I don't work in wills and estates but as a lawyer there is no way I would personally do this. The clauses can be quite confusing for the average person and there can be some hidden nasties. If you have a signifcant estate and they are taking even a few percent of that it really can add up for your beneficiaries.

Just for your peace of mind, if you make a will before you get married, that will is voided once you've become married. Therefore, you're better of waiting until you're married to create a will.

And on a sad note, if you get divorced, it's really important to create a new will!!

Unless you make the will in contemplation of marriage.

Hi Jessie if u call & book in they will send you a simple questionaire to fill in before your appt.

I had mine done last year(before married) & solicitor made the note my name would be changing with marriage so it's still valid.

Your best having a will now then no will at all!

This is not the type of will where a percentage is taken when you die. The solicitor genuinely donates their time for the salvation army's benefit. And salvation army doesn't take a percentage either. Money is all yours!

I work for the salvation army but please call the number to ask any questions or if your interested in donating your time :D

My office was one that took part in one of the days just held and i can confirm that we take the instructions prepare the wills and do it for $40.00 the bonus for us is that we will possibly get the estate when they die and we are doing it for a good cause. :)

I do. Its part of the policy where I work..FH and I are recognised as De Facto so that is noted in my will. And so he is pretty much my husband in that sense..It is noted in there as well that we are to be married within the next 12months. FH is listed as getting most my stuff anyway (not that I have billions of dollars worth) but you know what I mean..
