Hi, I really want some trendy wedding songs for my ceremony and i've come up with a handful but FH only likes a couple of them. Has anyone got some ideas? I dont listen to much music so I'm a little out of touch. I have done google searches but they seem to bring up all the oldies still.

Ask some guests, they'll all have to listen to the music as well.

What did you mean by trendy and modern? Can you give some examples?

I heard the song off Shrek _ accidentally in love_ on the radio yesterday! I thought that was pretty funky & fun! I think Smashmouth sing it.

I had Saving Grace by Pete Murray for my aisle song, but there are plenty of new songs which are weddingy and trendy

I walked down the aisle to Angels Brought me Here by Guy Sebastian. Not trendy, but recent. There are heaps to chose from though.

I'm currently picking songs for the reception and was wondering what kind of songs make you want to dance? What kind of songs do you think will get the guests on the dance floor for a bit of fun?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I always think of songs that were big when you were in highschool are a winner - cheesy or not I dont know

Generally things that have a popular dance for them are good. Like the Time Warp, Macarena, Nutbush etc.

I agree.. it depends on the age group. FOr my wedding it will be mostly the top 40 as I have mainly young guests who will be the only oones dancing. However I will include some hits from the late 70, early 80s for the oldersss.

Age group, number of guests and whether the majority are family or friends all makes a difference.

It can however be difficult to plan out a list of songs to play in order in advance, without knowing how they are going to react to them.

Generally, if you have a good mix of younger and older guests, start off with popular older songs (60's etc)for straight after your bridal waltz and slow dances. It will keep the oldies on the floor a little longer and as long as they are well known the younger guests will stick around as well. Try and get into top 40 within about 15 or 20 minutes of dancing starting, and for the rest of the night, try and group songs of similar genres together so that you play two or three of a particular genre in a row.

If you play a little bit of everything, keep genres together, and finish the night with either girly 80's or pub rock, that is probably your best bet.

It's funny, I always thought I hated the chicken dance until it was played at my friend's wedding and suddenly everyone was up dancing, including me!! So don't be quick to dismiss "those" songs, like the chicken dance and nutbush and macarena!

Also, yes most things by michael jackson - madonna - even more modern artists like britney spears and justin timberlake have at least a few good dance-y songs! Anything "girl power" will get the women up on the floor - spice girls, christian aguilera, etc. But I think the best dance songs that everyone recognizes comes from the 70's and 80's.
