What are are people doing for wedding favours?

Mon Jan 16, 2012 3:19 pm

As my april wedding is fast approaching this is all needing a decision.
Are lollie bars as good an idea as they seem?
What did you ladies do or are thinking of doing? I don't want to break the bank and i don't have tonnes of free time to get really creative (unfortunately)

Oh that is very cute!
I was wanting to do a lollie bar, however one of my BMs had the same thing and sometimes people can get weird if you do the same 8O

We are having a cocktail reception so for bonbonieres we needed something people could collect.

Some of the ideas I tossed around were:

- lolly buffet
- photobooth pictures
- lucky dips

I loved the lucky dips idea, I was going to go for 'girls' and boys, one each guest and indulge my desire to buy funny wedding bonbons. But at the end of the day we went for a photobooth which prints double strips so we get reception entertainment too.

I'm getting personalised playing cards with our names and wedding date on: (the bride and groom one pictured below) but our wedding is small so it could be pricey if you have 100 guests. We only have 20ish guests and I was going to put them in little cute gift boxes.

I love the lucky dip idea!!! Can imagine that would be a lot of fun.

We decided to go personalized m&ms, everyone loves chocolate and we've got them in our colour theme with our names, date and thankyou written on them. I found some cute little bride and groom boxes that double as placecard holders to put them in.

Each guest will receive one small Haigh's chocolate square, and we are also making a monetary donation the the National Breast Cancer Foundation in memory of FH's Mum.

I bought them through http://www.mymms.com
It's an actual branch of the Mars company so they taste just as good as the ones you get in the shop. Postage isn't the cheapest to Australia though, we ended up getting them posted to FMIL who lives in America and she posted them onto us (saved heaps even doing it that way).

I had a lolly bar and it worked really well! Everyone loved it and they still talk about now. I DIY'd it - got some glass jars and fruit bowls & tongs etc from kmart for a few dollars each, 'compliements of the bride & groom' paper bags from ebay and the lollies from the confectionary warehouse. Came in at about $65.00 all up for 50 guests and there were still enough lollies for people to take some home for their kids etc.

I do really like the idea of the Lolly Bar!
That way people can have something small to take home... I have been to other weddings and often i see people just forget to take the favors home.
Another wedding i went to, her Fh's parents had a family port, as in the drink and they had little bottles of that made up with their names on the labels.
No one remembered to take them home though :( Plus i know the bride took ages getting those all together.
I am def leaning towards the Lolly Bar.

I'd maybe ask your friend if she minds you having one? Chances are she won't and by asking it'll seem like you're doing the right thing so she won't get upset on the day when it's a surprise.
I wanted a lolly bar, but decided against it as FH said a lot of his family would probably be too shy to go over and help themselves and I didn't want anyone not getting a little thankyou, I hadn't actually thought of people forgetting the favours though!

Good idea DP i might ask her and yes i have been to a couple of weddings where people leave the favors behind. There is so much going on with a wedding i guess people forget in all the excitment :D However, since being on here i def notice how many hours the brides to be put in thinking about what people would like and it would be upsetting if they just walk off leaving behind favors you've painstakingly made yourself or paid a decent amount of money making sure they are unique.

Our wedding we had a pack of 6 glass coasters in a glass holder. They were quite expensive so we did it per couple, but everyone loved them and most people whom we visit now, still have them sitting on their dining room tables, 5 years later.

After having been to tonnes of weddings since our own, there have been some cute bonfav's including:

Wine stopper
Stubby holder
Compact mirrors
Chocolates

Believe it or not, in the 20 odd weddings we have been to in the last few years, I haven't been to one yet that has had a lolly buffet! However, my much younger sister has said that girls now do them for their 18ths and 21sts!

We are having personalised mint tins. Half will have mints and half will have fruit lollies (my sister requested no mint - she doesnt like it and probably isnt the only one :D )
