How much is your wedding costing?

Thu Mar 08, 2012 9:12 pm

I guess budget concerns are an issue for all brides. Are any brides going into debt for the wedding of their dreams or are most compromising?

Admittedly our budget has blown out to almost $40,000 and we have only put our honeymoon on credit. We have saved hard for the rest over the last 12 months and both sets of parents have also contributed a couple thousand each. Just wondering what other position brides are in?

I always thought ours was around $30K but I was a very lucky bride whose parents paid for most things and after 5 years of marriage, was recently told that it was more $35K.

But quite a few threads on this to give you an idea. Also bearing in mind the threads were started perhaps in different years so things may have changed slightly.

we decided the budget was going to be $10,000 but when i did the budget it went to $12,500 - then my FH wants it down to $8,000 if possible -- IM really starting to get down over it considering the reception and church is costing $5,000 --

our budget is $10,000 although im sure we will go over it

dont get down over the whole budgeting coz it will ruin your whole experiance

FH wanted a sit down and i soon showed him that its not possible to do that within our tight budget

We settled on a cocktail wedding that will provide guests with heaps of high quality food
i have been to to many weddings where the sit down food was tiny and over cooked and etc

the only way you may be able to get away with having a sit down for around that price is by hiring a rly cheap hall and organising cheap catering ....... (drinks will be a lot cheaper than going through licenced venue)

Im able to keep costs down coz my venue includes reception for free (golf course)

We had two ceremonies, help from my mother, and our honeymoon was timeshare accommodation.

All up, around $10k.

We set a budget of $15,000. Three weeks out we're only at $10,650 and we've pretty much paid for everything! I think it might just be $50 here or $50 for last minute little ideas. I wish I could say it gave us extra for our honeymoon but my folks have two other weddings to help for this year so whatever it came under budget we said came of their side of it rather then ours.
Honestly, yes it would have been a thousand times easier if money wasn't an option but the only thing I'd probably change is the reception venue. I love our venue but I loved one even more that was $150pp compared to the $65pp we're getting (huge difference!). It's just been a matter of lots of shopping around and lots of DIY.

We had a budget of around 25k-30k But i think by the time we finish with everything itll be more like 40k with all the little add ones that we forgot to include at the beginning.. But will all be worth it for a perfect day. Cant wait only 7 months and 5 days to go!!

We are lucky our parents are giving us money towards our big day... otherwise we would never be able to afford it.

We are both professionals on decent wages. We are also getting about $8,000 from parents.

Our budget is $3500 for wedding and then whatever it costs to take our boys away camping for 4 or 5 days on a family 'honeymoon' .. we just can't spend or justify any more considering that we do already have our children and are about to move into our brand new house which is being built .. we just have other priorities and want to put our money towards the future of our family, not throw it all at one day and make it all about us
I'm not judging anyone who's spent more .. each to their own, and the discussions about prioritising and budgeting (no matter what your budget) are all excellent practice for married life!

We had a total budget of 40k for the wedding + honeymoon, so we initially did a split down the middle. That was probably a little simplistic so we've since revised our budget to 30k for the wedding and 10k for the honeymoon. We both earn decent wages, have no kids and our mortgage is manageable.
The accountant in me baulked at the thought of spending all that money on one day, but it is going to be one of the biggest days of our lives and I don't want to look back with any regrets. The bulk of our budget went to our reception (min spend 10k), photography (2.5k) and videography (5k) which are the 3 must haves on our list.

I've tried to keep costs as low as possible without compromising on quality. It has crept up a little but I have decided my budget is $10000. I have done so well that I've even been able to throw the honeymoon into that as well and it's coming in right on target. Our reception will be for 45 or so people and our budget includes reception and everything else associated with the wedding and engagement.
