Image Posting on WC

Wed Nov 14, 2012 9:38 am

We are getting precariously close to the limit of our database, so we have had to remove the option of adding attachments on the forum to save what little space we have left.

Below are instructions on how to upload photos online and embed them in your posts. See below for different hosting sites.

You will only be able to embed files ending in .jgp/.jpeg , .gif or .png.

Please be wary of the size of your images. If they are too big, we may edit your posts and ask you to resize them.

If you have any problems, don't hesitate to contact the Mod Team.

Linking to photos

Paste the URL for the photo into your post on WC, highlight it all then click the Img button.

This will wrap the entire URL, and should look like this:

Image

Alternatively you can just type in [ img ] before the picture URL, and [/ img ] after the URL (without the spaces).

You can then use the Preview option before submitting your post to make sure it displays OK.

If it is too big, and it is hosted somewhere you can control (like Photobucket or Flickr), you will need to edit the image there to make it smaller (see instructions below).

If you’re linking to a photo found on Google / Facebook / Pinterest etc and you cannot find a smaller version of it, you will need to download the photo, upload it yourself to a hosting site, then resize them there.

Photobucket

Create an account.

Upload photos to your ‘Library’. Make sure they aren’t too big – the size you upload them is the size that will display on the forum.

Once uploaded, click on the image, and copy the “Direct link” code from the “Image Links” box in the right hand side. You can edit the options displayed here using the “Update Link Options” feature.

You can resize the photo in Photobucket by clicking on the “Edit” button then dragging the slider to make it smaller (don’t forget to save afterward):

Flickr

Create an account.

Upload the photo. Make sure it isn't too big – the size you upload it is the size that will display on the forum.

Choose the desired photo from ‘Your photostream’ and click on it.

Right click on the image, and choose the smallest size against “View all sizes”

Image

On the next page, you can choose the size you want to embed, then do the following for your browser:

Firefox - right click and "Copy Image Location"
Chrome - right click and "Copy Image URL"
Internet Explorer - right click, go to Properties and copy the Address (URL)
Safari - right click and "Copy Image Address"

Facebook

Right click and “Copy Image Location” (or similar - see above for browser-specific terms), paste that URL into your post, remove the “s” from https and wrap in the [ IMG ] tags.

Check to make sure the image isn't too big - if it is, you may need to upload it somewhere else and resize it.

Pinterest

Right click and “Copy Image Location” (or similar - see above for browser-specific terms), then paste that URL into your post, and wrap in the [ IMG ] tags.

Make sure the photo isn’t too big though – if it is, you will need to upload it to a hosting site and resize it.

Imgur

Create an account at Imgur.

Upload photos to your ‘Library’. Make sure they aren’t too big – the size you upload them is the size that will display on the forum.
Imgur has two options: computer or web upload (see below)

For computer upload:

Alternatively, in Windows Explorer (your computer file system), select your file, and drag and drop it to imgur:

Web upload:

Once uploaded, click on the image, and copy the “BBCode (message boards and forum)” code (right click on text and copy, clicking text and ctrl+c won't work).

To resize the images, you can either use the dropdown box in the above image that says "Original Image" (select "Large Thumbnail"), or choose one of the "Auto Resize" options displayed in the image below, but again, please be mindful of image sizes:
