So many flowers!

Tue Sep 30, 2008 11:51 am

I kind of knew but didnt know that there were going to be a lot of flowers involved in a wedding - but yesterday when I met with my florist she gave me a sheet with all the possible flowers we'll need - from Bride to BMs, the guys button holes, mums' corsages etc.

Just wondering what flowers everyone is getting. What's "normal" these days?!

My fiance has bluntly stated he doesn't want buttonholes so I guess I will just be getting my bouquet and the Bms flowers. I never really thought about getting something for mum, FMIL, etc.

It's up to the individuals I suppose, but at the moment I will be getting flowers for me, Bm's, buttonholes for FH and Gms and most possible my dad and ffil, also would probably like to get corsages for the ladies and then still tossing up what to get my flowergirl  yeah there is a lot!!! then I'm also getting flowers for the reception tables!! maybe not hehe

As Liz said, it's entirely up to individual taste...
I'm having wrist corsages for myself and bridesmaids, and a small posy bouquet for flowergirl, then corsages for my mum, FH's mum & FH's nanna, and that's it

We kept ours simple. I just ordered myself and BM's bouquets. Jas was adamant he didn't want a button hole, so we went with that, especially as the boys weren't wearing jackets on the day.
We didn't get corsages for Mum's or Grandparents either. My Mum was wearing a really flowy dress and said she didn't want one, so that made it easy. My MIL had dilemmas with week of the wedding with her dress(another guest, her dad's partner was wearing the same thing) so I made her a beaded corsage and I made my Dad a little beaded buttonhole as well.
Our table settings were candle holders, so didn't have to worry about that one.

I totally agree with the other ladies. It's really up to each couple on what they want to have and not have on their wedding day when it comes to flowers.

This is what we had:
Buttonholes for:
DH
3x GM's
3x brothers
2x dads
2x granddads
1x mc
1x other

Bouquests for:
Myself
2x bms
1 x flowergirl

Corsages for:
2x mums
3x nanas
2x aunties
1 x other

And then we had flowers everywhere in the chapel and in the reception

I ordered my bouquet, buttonhole for fh, buttonholes for dads, wrists corsages for mums and all the table centres. We aren't having any bridal party so we save a little bit there!

This is what I want:

1x Bridal bouquet
2x BM bouquet (small)

5x buttonholes (groom, 2 GM, 2 dads)

2x corsages (2x mummies)

Our reception venue has floral centrepieces as part of the package... and I will be choosing little ones as the tables are small rectangles:)

I'm not sure what i want yet...

I will be having a bouquet (and a throw away), but was thinking wrist corsages for the 2 BM but not sure (mum thinks it will look weird if they aren't holding something). Also buttonholes for FH and 2 GM, corsages for both mums and buttonholes for both dads.

We are also contemplating small floral centrepieces for the reception. There will be flowers in the church but we don't have to organise that one.

Yeah, I really liked the idea of wrist corsages too, too make everything appear a little less formal - we have a huge bridal party but I don't want the feel of a proper, formal wedding... But not sure how it'll look!

I guess i'm just not really sure of the whole purpose of the bouquets... other than they look pretty and it's tradition. I only want one cause i want to do the bouquet toss at the reception! I will probably also need my bridesmaids to adjust my dress quite a bit - figured it would be easier for them with two hands!

It is really up to you what you want.. Dont let the florist make you think you need something you dont.. Work out what YOU and FH want and then go from there.. Some weddings have only flowers for the bride and bridesmaids and thats it. But some have flowers for everything like reception, church or ceremony, button holes corsages and even a arrangement for the table you sign at which my self I think is a total waste of money because most of the time your flowers will be on that table when pictures are taken. If you want everything low key and want to save money I say just do you and your bms. But I would check with your mum and MIL if they wanted a corsage especially if they are paying for part of the wedding otherwise it may turn ugly. Trust me I work with brides every day coming in for flower quotes and one day a bride said no about the MIL corsage and boy was she in trouble.

I'm much like everyone else, buttonholes, bouquets, wrist corsage for my mum, corsage for FMIL, single flowers for FGs and something for the cake.

Its totally up to you what you have.

I initially didn't really care about flowers, but my mum loves them and wanted me to have them and offered to pay for them so we went with them and I am pretty glad that we have now that our wedding day is almost here

Just 3 bouquets for my 2 BMs and I and maybe a couple of flowers for around the cake if needed. I have been growing my own plants to use as centrepieces and to have around the ceremony site :D
