Thank you gifts for parents

Thu Oct 02, 2008 5:20 pm

I was hoping you girls would have some ideas on what we could buy our parents to say 'thank you' for their kind & generous contributions to our wedding.

I am stumped - i think between looking after a 15months old, working 3 days a week, renovating our front & back yard, planning a wedding etc my mind is cactus

Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated

Chels xx

I am thinking of getting them a digital photo frame? Or is that too daggy.

For my mum and FH's mum I bought handmade landscapes which are really similar in design so they would have something to bring them together - if that makes sense.

I also am buying my mum and my BM (and myself) a light cotton robe for the morning of the wedding :)

As the MOB ( well I will be in March 2009) I can't understand why it is necessary for all of these really expensive thank you gifts for everyone in the wedding party & the parents etc, I don't really expect anything, I feel it is my duty as a parent to help my daughter as much as I can, but a framed photo would be lovely, I don't want anything more than that, other than a thank you & a great big  hug

I am giving my parents this poem on canvas (with faded photos of me growing up):

Tomorrow is the day, I've dreamed of all my life.
I will then be marrying, becoming my love's wife.
I wanted to tell you how special, you two are to me.
You have made me what I am, and am ready to be.

Tonight I will sleep, with dreams of bygone days,
My loving, carefree childhood, and of my childish ways.
Then I will awake, with dreams of things to come,
What my life will be, and who I will become.

With the morning I will have, emotions flowing free,
I just wanted you to know, I'll need you there with me
Your strength and love will guide me, as I become the bride,
As I start this precious journey, I need you by my side.
I'll always be your daughter, and your love I'll always need,
Though we are starting a new chapter, planting a new seed.
He is my love, my life, my everything to me,
And he will be beside me, as we tackle what will be.

So on the eve of my wedding day, I say these words to you,
Hoping that you realize, you're in everything I do.
Tomorrow I will pledge to him, my very heart and soul,
You have helped to mold me, and he will make me whole

What a beautiful poem!! I was thinking of a poem for my mum too.... that is just beautiful!!

Unfortuantely my dad passed away at the beginning of the year so I don't really need to think of something for him, however I thought this cute hanky would help my mum get through the day too (she gets a bit emotional!!)

I gave my parents a bottle of vintage champagne on the day, and also (later on once we had our photographs) a miniature replica version of our wedding album.

I'm getting the fathers of the occaision cufflinks that say "Father of the Bride" and the other "father of the Groom" and the mothers are getting personalised "hankies". We are also going to give both couples a wedding album. We are paying for the wedding ourselves, otherwise we would have done something a bit more elaborate.

We said thank you. And that was it. If you always buy a gift to say thank you for a gift it never ends.

Why can't saying thank you be enough any more?

We're getting both our parents a double photo frame with a picture of us on one side and a poem on the other side.

My Mum is paying for the whole reception so I feel as though something big is in order - I was thinking of giving her a ticket on the Indian Pacific if we can afford it. She's always dreamed of doing it - but it depends how the cash goes! If not a weekend away or a really special dinner in one of Sydney's great restaurants.

Hi,

We're not giving our parents any expensive gifts. I think they'd rather the money went towards the wedding, not gifts for themselves! We're still paying for more than half the wedding ourselves, so we do actually need the money for that! Once we have our photos, I'm sure we'll frame some as gifts for them.
