We are having a pretty informal reception. We will have enough tables to seat everybody, but also picnic blankets and hay bales covered with sheets. We aren't allocating seats to people. What wording can use on our blackboard to let guests know to choose their own seating?

I'm not sure but for the ceremony I'm having the words:

"As we're joining two families together, we ask that you pick a seat not a side"

Cos FH doesnt have many people from his side attending the wedding so dont want it traditional where Friend of the Groom/Bride sit on the groom's/bride's side.

Depends on the feel you want, some things I have come across previously:

"As we're joining two families together, we ask that you pick a seat not a side"

"Friends of the Bride, Friends of the Groom, Please pick a seat, There's plenty of room"

"Now that we're together forever, we want you to sit wherever"

Or you could say "sit wherever you like"
