Beach Dress

Sun Jan 20, 2013 4:14 pm

Hi ladies,

I'm wondering how common is it for a bride to wear a big dress for a beach wedding. I know it's probably impractical and you may look out of place, but I just can't stop looking at the beautiful big dresses! Here is an example of what I mean by 'big dress'.

Also, would this be what you would call a suitable beach wedding dress?

I saw a beach bride on my honeymoon wearing a gown similar to the first. She looked great. Wear what you want!

It doesnt matter where your wedding is - wear the dress you want to wear!

I've seen girls wear the fuller ball gown dresses at beach weddings.

If you're concerned about a train you could leave it bustled for the ceremony then have it out for location shots. Best of both worlds!

As a beach bride myself, I think it depends where you are getting married and the season/climate.
I'm getting married in Thailand and wanted something light and flowy. I didn't want the added issues of tulle and boning and corsets etc etc. Thailand is hot and humid enough, I don't want to add to it!
So go with what you love, but just think about your comfort too depending on location etc

like everyone has said its your day, so wear what makes you happy :)

all I will add is something a friend who recently had a beach wedding mentioned after the event.

she had a big dress, with a train etc and found that she was really hot in the dress, married in the arvo on a fairly warm day and she said it really was uncomfortable with such a big dress, also the sand created chaos with the bottom of the dress and she ended up having to hitch the dress up and carry it, hoop and all.

she found the boning in the bodice was restricting which didnt help matters with the heat.

she said she wished she had chosen a lighter dress to wear

I got married on the grass part of a beach- i had a big dress on, and it didnt stop me from walking on the sand or climbing up on the big massive rocks for photos. It's really up to you, and what you want to wear and feel comfortable in- also take into consideration the location, month, and weather when choosing your dress :)
