Hello fellow January 2012 brides!!
We're 'doing it' on Australia Day (26th) on Cocos Keeling Islands, where we met exactly 4 years ago.
And 'redoing' it (for the benefit of those who can't make it to Cocos) back home on 9 March - yay, I get to wear my fabulous frock TWICE!
This wedding(s) a real DIY saga! Having SO much fun doing my own stuff for it, and saving heaps of money. We are both very unconventional, so none of this 500-strong big fat greek wedding stuff! LOL! I bought my dress back in November last year (bargain price, the EXACT one I'd been looking for, and NO RESIZING necessary - I just have to make sure I don't put on weight!), the other half has his outfit already (being ex-air force, I want him to wear his 'mess uniform' & he's happy to oblige!) Been doing a LOT of online purchases (I reckon I'm close to being a VIP member on efavormart!) - don't bother with Australian retail, it's such a rip off. The minute you say the word "wedding", the price goes up 500%!
Because the 'main wedding' is on Cocos, and probably only a few friends will be financial enough to attend, it's going to be simple as. We've got the celebrant (local bloke), and local photographer (she's AWESOME by the way...Hugs to you, Karen Willshaw!!), plus the flights/accommodation, that is the biggest expense. Celebrant's missus is also making my bouquet of local frangipanis. And I'm just waiting to get my 'high heel thongs' from Victoria's Secret...I'm gonna bling them up, cos the ones on sale already blinged were not what I wanted (and I thought rather overpriced!) The 'second wedding' is where the reception expenses are...but because we're having a cocktail party rather than sit-down formal affair, we'll save bucketloads! A beach wedding needs to be 'informal'!
