My homemade wedding cake

Sun Mar 29, 2009 4:56 pm

I was so happy with the cake I made for my wedding, I just wanted to brag a little bit and post a picture. It is a three tier choc mud, and the whole thing cost me a little over a hundred dollars to make. I am very proud of myself :D :D

Wow Looks great very professional!!!

I too am making my own cake, but cupcakes. Approx 130

How to you time the making of it? How far in advance and did you find it very stressful?

I am trying to work out a time line ...

I made the actual cakes the week before the wedding, and froze them, I decorated them the Friday and the Saturday nights before the wedding (which was a sunday). The Friday night I did the icing, and the flowers, and the Saturday night I put the tiers together, and finished the decorations. All up including making the cakes it prob took me about 8 hours. If I were to do it over, Id decorate the cakes a day early so I wouldnt be up all night the night before the wedding. But, having said that, I was kinda glad for the distraction! :D

Amazing job, it looks absolutely gorgeous and very delicious :D
I wouldn't pick it as not made by a professional - and you must be so happy you've saved so much money by putting in the effort yourself!

Looks professional! I wish I had the patience to do that. I'd get frustrated and give up probably.

Do you mind posting your recipe? I really want to make my own cake even though my fiance thinks I'll drive him crazy with too much to do...
I love the chocolate shards!!!! Was that hard?

sure, no prob. I will hunt it down and post it. The shards were easy to do...just melt some chocolate over boiling water untill super smooth, use a spatula to spread the melted choc thinly onto greeseproof paper (make sure its even and not too thick or thin), then mark the shards with a knife. When it sets, break thwm apart. :D
