my d.i.y flowers

Tue Dec 14, 2010 5:25 pm

In the lead up to our wedding, I was stressed to the max about the flowers. all the florists I tried wanted to charge a fortune for my simple ideas. so in the end I went through a wholesaler, and made the bouquets myself the night before the wedding. My talented bridesmaid then placed the ribbon and bling early the next morning, as well as making the buttonholes. I was so pleased with how they turned out :D

Thanks! :D the bouquets took me maybe an hour all up. I did them the night before when everyone had left, and it was just peaceful, so easy to get things done. and the buttonholes were even quicker. all up we had 7 buttonholes, and my bridesmaid had put them together within half an hour. Putting the bouquets together was so much fun! I want to do it again! :D

Thanks ladies, I had so much fun doing them! :D
I also found it great practice using fake flowers and cheap flowers from woolies etc, mrsfeb2011. might give you a taste for how your actual flowers will go.
hope you have as much fun doing yours as I did. I'm actually thinking about taking a floristry course now

sure :D first I watched a tutorial or two on youtube

first, you need to make sure leaves are trimmed, otherwise your bouquet will be quite bulky, and not in a good way.
then, I took a rose in my hand, placing each other rose in a clockwise direction around the first.
when I was finished I used cable ties to secure it all together. (you're supposed to use rubberbands, but I just thought the cable ties would be much stronger)
then my bridesmaid wound the ribbon around and placed pins to keep it in place.

this is one of the tutorials that really helped me.

Thanks!

How much did the boquets end up setting you back??

I had already planned on going to Sydney Markets at 5am the day before the wedding to get mine , and of course to make my own, but trying to figure out how much I should take with me!

all up I spent under $300 I think...from memory...seems like forever ago  that was enough for 20 white, 20 hot pink and 30 light pink...(though because they didn't have enough of one of the colours I had to go to a florist and get the extra from there which was quite pricey...)

good luck Shaynesgirl!

When the first pic popped up I was expecting that to be your inspiration pic, little did I know it was your actual bouquets! Fantastic job, I thought they were professional :D
