My budget is $4000, I need ideas

Fri Oct 12, 2012 3:31 pm

Hi everyone, I have a budget of only $3-4000 for the whole wedding and reception. Wedding is Tuesday 19th March 2013, and I haven't organised hardly anything lol

We are having about 40 guests and are looking at Coolangatta Surf club for the reception at $39.95 pp for buffet. $1600

We are to provide our own decorations and I have chosen this package from Affordable Bridal Acessories http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.317156605045022.71289.156383274455690&type=3 which I won in her acution for $280, and I had already aranged to hire another lolly buffet from her when she had a half price deal so that was $55. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.300419026718780.67723.156383274455690&type=3

Dress - I am going to hopefully get one from Exquisite gowns by Yvonne http://www.facebook.com/pages/Exquisite-Gowns-by-Yvonne/176011469125380 for under $200. Got my daughters dress for a second hand shop for $15.

Flowers - Will probably buy the DIY flowers from Eternal Memories Wooden Flowers http://www.facebook.com/EternalMemories?ref=stream and make them myself as they are only $1 and $1.50 per flower. I want this wand http://tinyurl.com/9nnswx2 for my daughter/flowergirl, and this for me http://tinyurl.com/9g66k2q, and a smaller version for the bridesmaid. $7 + $20 + $30 = ~$60 plus postage

Photos - I have a newbie photographer who is going to do the photos for $50, travel for $30, and 150 edited photos for $70 so about $150 all up, plus a friend of mine has said he will take photos for me as well :)

Invitations - I am looking at making the invitations myself and have already done save the dates on Facebook, I will send the ones to those who don't have facebook.

So i'm already looking at $2365 for all of that without the invitations.

Can I get help with ideas for the other stuff we need.
Anyone know a cheap celebrant? etc

You sound like you have so much organised!

We're having our wedding on a budget too. We're having about 90 people and he reception is going to be in my parent's backyard. We're having a spit roast with assorted sides and a cake buffet for dessert. Between me, my mum, sisters, sisters in law and aunties we are self catering (Bringing a salad and a cake each)

We were able to find the ladies of the local tennis club to come to do the serving/dishes for a donation.

A local community group is letting us hire all our cutlery, crockery, tables, chairs and linen for just a donation

The best thing we have found is our funeral director. It's ok - he's a good friend. Out of him we are getting

- Tea cups and saucers
- Hot water Urn
- Beer Glasses
- Wine Glasses
- MC
- Limosine

For FREE!

I am making my bouquet out of buttons - I've spent less than $50

I look forward to seeing your ideas come together!

FH and I have been engaged for umm 5 years I think lol, and I have only just started organising the wedding. We just moved over from NZ in June so I have only been starting to organise stuff the last month or so really.

Just checked out your S&T, looks like things are coming along well, and YAY for free stuff.

Try to buy things in bulk for your invitations. For example, you can get a ream of nice textured paper for quite cheap in several discount stationery stores such as officeworks. Or if you want more solid invitations, go for a nice textured card-stock, but buy a roll or big sheet of it that you cut to size yourself, rather than buying a lot of A4 sheets.

If you are just doing a basic print with Microsoft word with a nice font, you can jazz up your invitations with a nice flourish or picture found on the web, or go into a $2 shop and buy some scrapbooking embellishments to add to each invitations. If you watch your spending, 40 invitations, RSVPs and envelopes could cost as little as $1.50 per invitation set.

Hope that helps, and good luck! :-)

we are only having a small wedding and its coming in under $3000

our celebrant is costing $395
hire of the gazebo/rotunda $60
dress will be $250
FH already has his suit
lunch time meal for 30 guests (including us) $1250
not being charged for the room hire for lunch at the hotel
invitations I am getting from light in a box, 50 invites, envelopes and seals for under $60 and they can print a verse inside but we are getting ours blank as none of the verses we liked
flowers I am getting a small bouquet online for around $20
we arent having decorations at the reception
transport is the big thing for us, trying to get a quote for a reasonably priced bus to get everyone there and back

good luck with the celebrant, its so hard and we were lucky to find this one

How about a DJ? Do you know anyone with the gear that will do it for free? We looked at getting a dj but thought better of it seeing as I got all the gear and can do it my self lol.

But Stevo, it is your wedding. You should be enjoying it, not "working".

I think you have done really well so far with the budget. If you are able to do the invitations yourself you could get away with them quite cheaply - look online for some templates and set them up yourself. You can either print them yourself at home or take them to a print shop where they can cut them for you as well. If you keep them black and white they will be cheaper and you can add some embellishments yourself if you feel they need to be jazzed up a bit.

Celebrants are generally fairly expensive as I think there is a lot of cost involved in all the paperwork and legal things they have to cover. Maybe ask around to find someone who is just starting out and willing to do it for cheaper to get experience.

you are doing pretty well so far :)

music - make a play list on your ipod and use a dock for music, then its free :D
celebrant - is generally $300-$400 and this probably isnt something you will find much savings on but you have saved in other areas so it shouldnt hurt your budget too much
invites - vistaprint do really cheap printing and may be cheaper than making your own invites so i would look into that
cake - can a friend make your cake?

Thanks for all the tips.

Music - probably just use our laptop if we can and just hook it up to their system (haven't booked the place yet but I presume they have a sound system to use, better make sure)

Invites - will have a look at vistaprint, does anyone have any photos of invites they got done through them?

Celebrant - guess that one is pretty important, should get onto that very soon, $300-400 is pretty reasonable tho, in NZ they can be REALLY expensive if you don't look around.

In regards to asking friends about places/people etc, we only moved to OZ in June so don't really know many people over here so any links that you may have would be greatly appreciated :)

We had our STDs printed by Vistaprint - here's a pic... I think we got 25, and that cost $15.80, but we paid extra for recycled card.

If you're after some free invite templates, The Wedding Chicks have some lovely ones!

Do you work somewhere with a MFD (one of those huge printer/photocopiers)? That's how I'll be most likely printing my invites :D

Your STD's look great. Umm nah I don't work and FH is a arborist or tree lopper so no printing machines here
