I like the idea of a photo of both sets of parents... :)

Never thought about it. Our cake was plonked on the same table that had the wishing well and gifts on it. Not more decoration added!

Please don't overdo it. Personally, when we deliver and set up wedding cakes they look best when they are set on a white tablecloth perfectly pristine otherwise. Your cake is the centrepiece of your reception and you don't want to take away anything from it, by decorating all around and overcrowding the area.

Thanks for all the replies!

You have all convinced me that my cake table will go as planned with a few tea light holders and some crystal scatters.

I definitely want my cake to be the focal point i think I just panicked a little when I googled cake tables and all these fancy tables with full on decorations popped up. But I'm satisfied now that I'm not going to overdo it and I agree sometimes simple is best! :-)

Agree with you, I think simple looks the best. Depending on the size of your cake and the table, possibly some tea lights and champagne flutes are all that will fit on it anyway.

I'm thinking just a nice runner and cakestand. Keep it simple!

We just had a couple of jars with a few flowers in them and some tea lights

That last post is ridiculous. Looking at some of the cake table decorations, it is too much and subtracts from the overall effect that the gorgeous cake would make on a simple decorated table. Some decorations, so long as it isn't higher than the bottom of the cake is fine. An over done table looks not only tacky, but takes away from the statement that is "the cake" and certainly doesn't make the cake taste better.
