Re: HELP!! Need to severely cut down our budget!!

Mon Jan 14, 2013 3:47 pm

Just spoke to FH about the breakfast thing. He would like it on our 1 year anniversary - 20th August 2013.... which is a Tuesday. The compromise? 24th August (possibly, just gotta check with family) 2013. Ceremony 9am in the park (or possibly at the restaurant), breakfast at 10am at the restaurant near the park, photos afterwards, afternoon tea/dessert buffet at 2pm for everyone else who wishes to come celebrate.

if you are having an early morning wedding, make your wedding party as simple as possible. I am having an 11.30am wedding, I am choosing to go to the hairdressers salon because basically it will be a nice break as we are having alot of family members staying with us.
I am not having bridesmaids but have got a few female family members attending so the hairdresser is going let me have the morning wedding deal, and that means, the salon is shut to other customers, we all get there early (8.30am) and we have croissants and coffee while I get my hair and make up done and the girls get their hair done.

if I had bridesmaids it would of been more rushed and harder to organise, this way at least I get a bit of pampering done and spend time with the girls who are coming over for the wedding.

while we are doing that the boys are getting ready and then once I get back I can just relax a bit before getting dressed and heading down there.

Have been to a few morning weddings and everyone has kept it simple so there is no real rushing and stressing.

good luck with the plans, I love the alernative you have come up with

Oh Mrcm - sounds sooo leisurely :) That's what I'm hoping this will be like too!! The afternoon tea will still be large-ish (36 people), but they will be all people we are close to, which is the most important thing for us. Breakfast will be small.

So: Budget time. AGAIN LOL

Celebrant: $250

Bridal outfit: $500

Grooms outfit: $200

Venue: FREE

Breakfast:

15 Adults, 3 Children - $20/head - $360

Venue: Free

Afternoon Tea:

An extra 13 Adults, 5 Children (So 28 Adults, 8 children) @ $10/head - $380

Venue: Free

Table hire: 3 x trestle tables @ $15/table - $45

Chairs: Free - borrowing from FHs work

Wine glasses: Free - borrowing from FHs work

Plates/Cups/Cutlery: Budget of $70 (paper and wood from pinkfrosting.com.au)

Music: $100 - need to buy an ipod dock thingy and batteries

Decorations: $100 - no chair sashes/chair covers etc, just table cloths, props, vases, and a bunting

Flowers: $250

Invitations: $100

Hair and Make-up: $100

Cake: $150

your plans sound great and you must be sighing a bit of relief at the difference in budgets.

yes the morning of the wedding I want to be relaxed, I know I will get nervous once I am back home and about to get ready, H2B will be ready by the time I get back and we want to get some nice family shots before going he leaves for the ceremony.

good luck with it all and again I love the sounds of the alternative you have come up with, hope you are happy with it all too :)

Thanks for the savings tips :)

I just thought I'd update you all on the budget, because it's blown a bit out of proportion, again. Mainly due to the little things that I didn't even think about! It's based on my BSL:

Dress, shoes, accessories and alterations: $650 (my dress ordered for $475)

Suit, shoes, socks, cufflinks, alterations: $250 (his suit already bought and delivered for $125)

Bridal party budget: $250

Flower girl basket + flowers: $25

Resizing of rings: $112

Celebrant: $250

Music/DJ: $100

Cake: $150

Hair & Make-up: $120

Cars: FREE

Photobooth props: $25 (I'm DIYing)

Disposable table cameras: $90

Lawn Games: FREE (found quoits and bocce at his mums!)

Save the Dates: $45 (most of this was postage 8O and we got the cheapest ones - had to pay twice because this included magnets!!)

Invitations and all other stationary: $100

Flowers: Hoping I can still get away with this for $350. At this point it's not looking good, but I will persevere!!

Decorations (bunting, lighting, tablecloths, vases etc): $200

Guestbook: $70

Cake topper: $40

Favours: $70

Reception and ceremony venue: FREE

Food & Non alcoholic beverages: $875

Alcohol: $400

Plates and cutlery: $110

Hire stuff: $200 IF WE NEED IT

Extras: $250 IF WE NEED IT

TOTAL: $4012 + $450 buffer

I'd get rid of the disposable cameras. Instead set up a photobucket account and give the details to your guests so they can upload their digital camera pics onto it.

Yeah I thought about that... where/when would I give the details to the guests though? On their thank you cards?

OMG... this is so frustrating!!!

Budget has just gone out the freaking window I swear.

Invitation designer (a friend) is REFUSING to use vistaprint and instead wants to use his own printer with specialised paper - He wants $200 for JUST THE INVITATIONS. No RSVP cards, no place cards, no thank you notes. Nothing. The $200 he wants for just the invitation printing is more than what we had budgeted for everything. I don't know how to deal with this because he's one of FHs best mates. So it'll probably end up costing us about $250 - $300 for everything if you include postage.

Next problem is the flowers. MIL was going to pay for them, but instead she's decided to pay for the landscaping of the new house which will be where we're having our wedding - which is fine. I budgeted $350 for the flowers anyway because I wasn't 100% certain, but I've gotten a lot of different quotes for everything, and even with trying to cut down the amount of flowers we're having, it's still going to cost about $500 for artificial when you include the reception flowers. We're not even having anything at the ceremony now so that we could cut costs. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL WE'RE PAYING SO MUCH FOR WHEN EVERYONE ELSE ON HERE HAS PAID SO LITTLE!!

with the invites either go to vistaprint (yes I will still recommend them even though they caused me headaches) or do what I did which was get the supplies, find a free downloadable template on the net (most have the rsvp and thank you cards templates included) and do them yourself, I saved alot of money doing it even though it was something I was not planning on doing

with the flowers there is a place called flowerland on ebay, they have some nice flowers there and at fairly decent prices, I am using another one cant think of the name at the moment but I would of got them from flowerland if he had the ones I wanted.

Floral Land?

You need to tell your FH's friend that those invites are not possible as you have a budget.
