We are saving by having it on a Wed (destination wedding anyway so people coming are on holidays) and also by having it as a destination wedding so only very close family and friends (approx 20 guests) which is a huge saving on the reception!

Re: What you actually spent...

Well, two weeks later and the last invoice paid off I can now put together my list of expenditures!

Attire
Wedding dress - $800
Garter - $20
Lingerie - $150
Shoes - I wore an old pair
Jewellery - gift from mum
Dress, cardigan and shoes for afternoon tea before ceremony - $350
Groom's suit, shirt, shoes - $500
Shawls for bridesmaids - $100
Bridesmaids / Groomsmen's outfits - they wore their own (only one had to buy an outfit)
Make-up for bride, 2 bridesmaids and mother - $430 (including 1 trial)

Total: $2350

Flowers & Decorations
Silk flowers - $420, includes:
Bridal bouquet
Toss bouquet
2 bridesmaids bouquets
7 buttonholes
3 corsages
Cake topper and flowers
10 mini-vases (actually shot-glasses!) with small bunch of roses
(I bought most of the flowers loose and arranged them myself, except for the bridal bouquet)
Real flowers - $40 (for a bunch of supermarket flowers and 3 glass tumblers, my bridemaids made up 3 mini-vases for the bridal table)
Ribbon - $30

Total: $490

Stationery
DIY save-the-dates, seating chart, table numbers, guest information - $100
40+ invitations - $200
Postage - around $20 (We hand-delivered nearly half the invitations/STDs to friends/family who live nearby)

Total: $320

Ceremony
Celebrant - $480
Ceremony venue - $300
Wedding rings - $530

Total: $1310

Reception
Pre-ceremony afternoon tea for close family - $160
Canapes, 2 course dinner, 5 hours bev package and cheese/fruit buffet for 84 guests - $9100
DJ for 5 hours - $650
Photography - $700 (approx)
Cake - $400 (approx figure for cost of ingredients and equipment; I baked the cake myself)
Gifts for MC, groomsmen, bridesmaids - $400

Total: $11410

Grand total: $15880

We saved up the entire lot in 9 months, thought we went over our original budget of $13-15k. That said, we had quite a few last minute additions which we decided to do only in the last few weeks leading up to the wedding, like getting a makeup artist (on my aunt's persistent insistence!) and organising a pre-wedding afternoon tea for close family (cultural tradition), which added to the budget. :(

We left out a lot of things that weren't important to us (cars, favours, decorations) and spent as much as we could afford on the food & drink, which was our priority.

wow! Well done to a lot of the girls on this thread for keeping a track of spending! Our wedding came under 30 but that included our ceremony overseas, flights, reception back at home, and honeymoon. The irony though is that you scrimp and save all year and then family members and friends give you a refund at the end of it! We didn't plan that part and didn't ask for any gifts or cash but ain't that the way!

Hello! I am feeling ok about it, we knew it was going to be around that amount, coming from an Italian background this is normal. I have a HUGE family so as you can see the reception is nearly half of the amount! Just to add to it, I am the first daughter, granddaughter, niece and cousin so it has been a huge thing in my family!
Just the Norm!
Much Thanks x

Re: What you actually spent...

have just done all the final totals that have been paid out, we are just over a month out from the wedding but everything is paid for and we came in under budget.

Our wedding was never going to be a big flash affair, we had a budget of $2000 for a small garden wedding with maximum of 20-25 people and lunch afterwards at a local hotel.

Final numbers ended up being 18 guests (all are flying from interstate)

our wedding costs were

Celebrant $395 - Chris Brember Celebrant Services, highly recommended and he had this special when we booked him so was really lucky

My Dress - $200 - I didnt buy a traditional dress, bought a formal/bridesmaid dress in purple so cut the costs downly in a big way, love my dress and will just have it altered to a shorter length after the wedding

Wedding rings - $400 - Claddagh wedding rings made in Ireland and exactly what we wanted

Invitations and extra Stationary - $45 - I made our invites, rsvps and accomodations info , also printed our programs for the ceremony as well as the tears of joy envelopes and stickers and also the menu choices for lunch.

Hair- $60 for a hairdresser to come and do my hair at home in a simple style

Makeup - free - my niece is a MU artist

Flowers - $60 including postage, for a bouquet of silk orchids in white and white and purple and a bouquet of silk roses for my attendant

Rotunda hire - $60

Table decorations for our lunch - $40 again I made most of these and had a niece who very kindly sent over her wedding decorations to help out

Cake $40 - having a simple sponge cake made by local baker and decorated with the wedding colours and this also includes the cake topper

Photography - free - niece is a photographer and doing it for us

Food - $500 this is for 20 people and includes nibbles when we arrive, main meal and the cost of the venue cutting and serving the cake and a first round of drinks for the guests who have opted to buy their own as most of them have expensive taste :)

total cost $1800

I already have my shoes and jewellery to wear and my partner already had his suit.

Attendants already have their outfits for the day
