Katie's Day... and an extra reason to be thankful..

Postby hazzbang on Sat Nov 07, 2009 10:05 pm

All of us Brides-to-be have our moments during the planning of our 'Big Day' that make us want to call it quits, throw a tantrum or burst into tears.... it's natural, I know, but this story I want to share with everyone shows that at the end of it all it's really about being with the person you love and hoping to start a beautiful life together. Unfortunately for some, that time is so short...

THIS IS JUST TOO BEAUTIFUL AND TOO MEANINGFUL..
JUST TAKE THE TIME AND REFLECT UPON IT.

Image
Her name is Katie Kirkpatrick, 21 yrs old. Next to her is her fiance, Nick, 23.
This picture was taken prior to their wedding January 11th, 2005 . Katie has terminal cancer and spends hours in chemotherapy.
Here Nick awaits while she finishes one of the sessions..

Image
Even in pain and dealing with her organs shutting down, with the help of morphine, Katie took care of every single wedding planning.
Her dress had to be adjusted several times due to Katie's constant weight loss.

Image
An expected guest was her oxygen tank. Katie had to use it during the ceremony and reception.
The other couple in this picture are Nick's parents, very emotional with the wedding and of course to see their son marrying the girl he fell in love when he was an adolescent.

Image
Katie, in a wheel chair listening to her husband and friends singing to her.

Image
In the middle of the party Katie had to rest for a bit and catch her breath. The pain doesn't allow her to stand for long period of time.

Image
Katie died 5 days after her wedding. To see a fragile woman dress as bride with a beautiful smile makes you think... happiness is always there within reach, no matter how long it lasts.....lets enjoy life and don't live a complicated life. Life is too short.

I know

Personally for me, this story made me even look at my own day differently and realise who gives a sh!t about whether the colours/favours/cake aren't perfect... I'm just so thankful that me, FH and our bubs are healthy.

Wow. Definately makes you reflect on what 'important' is doesn't it?

What an awful, yet beautiful story.

That is such a sad, happy story... know what I mean? How devastating that somebody so young was so sick... but her last days were obviously incredibly happy, and by the look of things, she had more love in her short life then so many people don't get in a lifetime. What a beautiful story.

Lovely but tragic story, it brought tears to my eyes :( As awful as it is I love that it makes me think about how each day is a blessing and to make the most of it.
