Wishing well money

Wed May 06, 2009 2:23 pm

Hi,
DH and I are having difficulty agreeing on what to use our wishing well money for; we're going to do some work to the house but both have different ideas of what's more urgent (I want to put it towards a cheap kitchen, DH wants to work on the garden). So I was wondering, for those of you who opted for a wishing well wedding, what did you do with the contributions?
I hope noone takes offence to the question, I'm really just curious...

As we do not have a joint account as yet, we split the wishing money we received in half.

ours is currently sitting in our joint house account and will be used once our house settles (1st June) to do the garden as the inside of our house is all renovated but the outside is a real mess.

^^^Completely agree. Our money was our spending money on our honeymoon.

I would want a new kitchen before a new garden! For sure!

Ours is sitting in our joint account, its an offset account so we're saving interest, and there it shall remain until we have enough money to buy another property. We want to upgrade to a larger place so we have room for dogs and babies :D

Ours was for our Thailand honeymoon and we were clear on that from the start...

the wishing well cards went out with the invitation asking people nicely to put $ towards our honeymoon rather than get us a gift (as we were moving to Japan in August the same year so large gifts etc would just go into storage!!)

We got enough to pay for the flights and accomodation so just needed our own spending money - it ws fantastic!! :D :D

We spent our money on some new timber furniture. We still have a heap of vouchers left(mainly Harvey Norman) so we might get some wedding photos turned into canvas prints.

We split ours into "sensible" (new linen, savings, house deposit) and "fun" (new LCD TV and Blu Ray Player, tickets to the theatre).

i'd spend it on a rain water tank. get it filled up over winter then you will have water to maintain your garden over summer

We did a few things with ours...
There were a few big items around the house that needed to be replaced/updated, so some went on that (New kitchen bench, BBQ, outdoor setting)
Some was used as honeymoon spending money.
Some went into savings.
And the rest we split in half and can use at our own will for whatever we want/need :D

we don't have a house as yet, so it'll go into our savings account to 'eventually' go into a house (as per our wishing well poem)
We may also use some of it as spending money on our honeymoon, depending on how much we're able to save in the mean time.

Can't you compromise and do a bit of both? Use 1/2 for the garden and rest towards the kitchen, based on what you've said it wont cover the entire cost of both but at least you both feel you each got something out of it.
