Our guests ended up being so generous. I had thought we would maybe get $1k. We ended up with over $4.5k. Very happy honeymoon spending :D

Our parents contributions were $5,500 all up... then from the reception with 78 guests we received $4,500. My greek relatives - 8 of them - contributed to most of that though! But that is the way they do things like weddings. I felt bad though because they all travelled up from Melbourne for the wedding... I honestly didn't want/expect anything but with them it is quite rude to refuse gifts of any sort.

TOTAL - $10,000 (my whole wedding was only $10,000 give or take a few hundred!)

We were very lucky, we got $4300 (all up on our Flight Centre & in cashola) we had 77 guests come to the wedding, but had contributions from people who didnt even come (and some people that did come who didnt 8O ). The amount varied from $50 from 1 couple to $300 from a single person. We also got a few gifts, which was a little annoying (I'm really not wanting to sound ungreatful, but we had a flight centre registry for a reason), I've got a few of the things on ebay as they're things that don't suit our house or we'll never use or we already have.
I found it interesting to see the differences in what different people gave - opens your eyes a bit.

We had about 150 people, recieved about $7000 in cash and vouchers and got a fair few gifts as well. Generally I found that the massive generosity of some guests outweighed the 'stingy bitches' (as my younger sister called them  ) We are EXTTREMELY happy and grateful

The best man and his Mum gave us a $500 ikea gift card with the stolen 'do not take this' catalogue wrapped up with it

haha that's cute. I didn't put anything in my invites about presents or money...so potentially I may not get anything! I'll check back in in 8 weeks with an update

We were very blessed. We got about $7k (I say approximate as my dad gave us $1,500 euros and I haven't checked the exchange rate). This was unexpectedly generous as he had already paid for half the wedding. My brothers gave $1000 from the two of them which made me cry because it was so very generous as one is an apprentice and the other has a big mortagage. We had 60 guests said nothing about any gifts on the invite. All of the money all came from my side of the family (30 pple) who are all Croatian. FH's side gave physical gifts (we now have serving ware to last at least the next 5 years :D )

Wishing well & gifts totaled about $5k. That's a huge amount, considering almost everyone had to travel to Darwin which isn't the cheapest place to visit!

From our honeymoon and gift registry it came to about $10,000. We never expected anything and this was a nice surprise :D
I enjoyed the cards the most though.

Like smarme, ours was cultural influence as well. We received about $35k from about 200 guests, but $17k of that paid for the reception. Some large amounts were given to us by immediate family, including those that weren't able to attend.

OMG, I didn't know that it's actually possible to earn money from a wedding, which is GREAT! I hope I get that amount too

We didn't have a wishing well or a registry - left the invite blank and 100% up to guests as to what they did so for presents.

excluding parental contributions we got:

* pizza oven
* 2 x dinner vouchers a 4 course restaurant including all drinks which we wanted for our honeymoon
* an outdoor shower (like at the beach) which DH has ALWAYS wanted for our pool
* bowls, cutlery, an awesome doona set, gorgeous Vera Wang wine glasses, booze - 2 x bottles of champagne & scotch and a grill

Majority of guests gave cash or vouchers - we got $7,200 in cash & $550 in vouchers.

there were 88 adults including us. a few people didn't even give a card but oh well. i'm still on a high from the wedding so I don't care who gave what.

Is it just me or is alcohol a bit of a strange wedding gift? Sorry to seem as if I would be ungrateful, but it has never entered my thoughts to get booze as a wedding gift...

Hmmm, we always give as an engagement present a $150 bottle of Moet Chandon but its not something I would give as a wedding gift, I guess if you had a really precious rare old bottle of wine or if it was a particular malt of whiskey, still you would rather a day trip to a winery as a couple. Or I would anyway :D

I can understand champagne but I agree that spirits are an odd present, unless you know the couple would love a rare bottle of whatever

I have a question...did all of you that got certain amounts of money also have registries, or just wishing wells?

I didn't say anything about gifts in the invite. left it up to people. Most people except about 7 gave cash.
