Hi girls,

I was just wondering how long it took to receive your marriage cert? As i am a MOH 3 weeks after my wedding and wanted to sign with my married name.

What is the minimum places/documents i have to change to do this?

And do i have to go to the registry of births, marriage etc.. to do this?

I am completely naive to the process but i only have a short time to do so.

Thanks!

If you go into BDM to get your official marriage certificate you get it on the spot, so you could go straight in there the week after your wedding and get it. It takes a bit longer if you send in the paperwork rather than go to the office.
Im not sure whether you would need that in order to sign your new name when you are MOH though, I wouldnt think you would.

Does it make a difference which name you use on their marriage certificate? How do they check? Our celebrant didn't check any ID or anything.
I think it can take up to 2 weeks for the marriage to be registered with BDM, then you can apply for the certificate straight away (go in person to BDM or apply by post). So you should be able to get your certificate within 3 weeks. It does differ state to state though so it might be different, depending where you're located.

I didnt think they did ask for any id or anything but i wasn't sure tbh...if i can just use my new name with 'officially' changing it i will as i don't want to be running around for no reason!

But make sure that the bride that you are MOH for gives your new married name to the celebrant to go on their forms, otherwise legally you should not sign with your new name if all their forms have your maiden name in it.

i agree with yamile.... As long as the bride puts your new name on her forms she is submitting to her celebrant, then you are able to sign the cert in ur married name... How ever if it states your maiden name, there for you will have to sign in ur maiden name

your celebrant will send in the official paperwork on the day your married or the next business day, this is then received and processed by the BDM's. You should then apply for your marriage cert about 7 days after the wedding to allow for this, and the marriage cert should arrive generally 7 days after you apply
