Diet is more important in losing weight than exercise... Lots of girls on here write down what they eat everyday. It helps as firstly, being accountable to other people makes you think about what you put in your mouth, secondly, we might be able to see what you're doing wrong!

Keeping a food diary is a great place to start... And be completely honest!

Lots of people do put weight on when they start exercising - don't give up! It can take a few weeks for your body to start going in the direction you want to go. That said, only being concerned about your weight isn't the right thing to do. Measurements and body fat percentage are much more accurate ways to see if you're improving!

I'd also do more weights - weights will build muscle which use more energy just for being there... in turn, helping you burn more fat

I would suggest keeping track of your calories, the only sure way you'll know you're doing the right things to lose weight. Exercise actually doesn't have a massive bearing on weight loss. It's pretty much 70 - 80% food and 20 - 30% exercise...

Check out http://www.calorieking.com.au, it is free, has a database and food diary not to mention great articles concerning many weight loss issues. It has definitely given me an education in losing weight! I've gone from obese to an healthy weight without starving myself or slogging it out in the gym for hours a day.

Muscle weighs more than fat, so if you have been working out, you've probably burned fat but also increased your muscle mass. Instead of relying solely on the scales, also gauge your progress using measurements of your waist, hips, thighs etc, and also how your clothes are fitting.

Totally agree with Jaynage - you are probably increasing you rmuscle mass, which will actually mean you will burn more calories (even when not exercising) so keep it up and you will soon see a huge difference in body shape - if not on the scales.

Yep, been there and have to agree with the girls - you could be putting on muscle mass which weighs more and is GOOD because you will burn more calories. Like Jaynage said, use your clothes or measurements as a guide rather than going by weight.

Who says you have to have bolognaise with pasta?!?!

You could peel strips of carrot or zucchini to make vegetable 'pasta' or just serve the sauce over steamed vegies (broccoli, beans, capsicum, cauliflower etc.)

Wholemeal pasta is slightly better for you, but still packed with carbs.

The extra 'weight' could also be due to fluid retention, due to sodium consumed, not enough water, TTOTM, muscle repair after exercise...this list goes on!

That's ok! It's an easy way to adapt a meal and your FH can still have his pasta :)

you could always have a little pasta with leftover sauce for lunch tomorrow?

You do need carbs, and energy in general...although some people say exercising on an empty stomach makes your body use its stores rather than what you've just put in your mouth..

That said...having pasta at lunch, particularly wholewheat pasta, will keep you going until the evening when you do your classes.

Maybe instead of fruit for afternon tea, try something with more protein? Low/no fat yoghurt, tuna, lean meat, hard boiled egg...

There's should be no issue with eating carbs, as long as you get adequate protein, fruit and vegetables as well. Carbs are not the devil! At the end of the day it all comes down to calories in Vs calories out!

fruit and vegies are carbs!!! There's nothing wrong with carbs, but too many isn't good when you're trying to lose weight. Eating a pile of vegies at dinner is a better way to get your carbs than stocking up on starchy pasta/bread/rice/potatoe etc.

As another alternative.....we have cauliflower 'rice' at night. You whizz the cauliflower up into fine bits, and then cook it

we microwave it first, then cook a bit of finely chopped capsicum and spring onion in a pan, add the cauliflower and add some curry powder.

We eat rice at lunch time (I only get 1/4 cup of cooked brown rice)

That looks pretty good tasbride!

Remember, you need fats for your body to run, so you do need to eat some!
