I think they keep count of calories burnt to make sure that you are eating enough (1200 cals/day) to ensure your body has enough calories to maintain muscle mass? But if you don't want to use the exercise calorie tracker then don't enter the exercise as amberino said.
Sorry to hijack the thread, the other app/website that I like to use is runkeeper.com It tracks your run/walk/hike/cycles and gives you incentive emails about how you are going. I keep getting emails congratulating me on my farthest distance walked
It's a lot more accurate than the pedometer on my ipod which is what it replaced. Just thought I would share it in case someone else finds it useful.
