I think it can be because it can put a bit of strain on the skin, it doesnt have enough time to calm down.
I've had acne for a really long time, and even though I'm in my late 20's I have to be really carefully about what I eat and drink and my cleansing routine...
What works best for me is:
Drink 2.5 litres of water a day... well try to anyway...
Avoid too much sugar... although sometimes it cannot be helped...
Clean my skin in the morning and at night.
In winter I alternate between a soft milky, moisturising wash (If you have super oily skin it may seem redundent but it you get more pimples if your skin dries out,) and then a harsher micro exfoliating wash like proactive. When it comes to toners and stuff i try not to use it if my skin is too dry...
In summer I wash in the morning and night with proactive...
I think the main thing is using a nice calming moisturiser after every wash (even with oily skin..)I use Simple Moisturiser.

I hope that helps....

Finding a solution to acne can be so difficult. In the last 26 years, working with skin as a therapist, I have to say what has been a stand out is to be gentle with skin that is suffering from acne and to understand the body and your skin are inseparable. acne is a symptom of something that is going on within. It cannot be ignored or suppressed. If you do, the body will find different ways of dealing with the original problem. I love what you say about water and sugar, I agree on both and the first food, that's if you can call it that, that I recommend people with acne remove from their diet is sugar, that includes, potatoes, bread and all other non fibrous carbohydrates. But that is a different conversation. Happy to answer any questions about it, if it helps.Recently in our clinic we had a girl that was referred to us by her naturopath, she was suffering from serious acne, which has now disappeared. I recommended she use the Instant Skin Correction Serum and 2 other addtional products from our range and the results were outstanding. Gentle, gentle, gentle is all I can say. Skin that has acne is already going through so much, using harsh products aggrevates the problem and yet you want products that work deeply to heal the skin. Your skin is in your care and there are no second chances so it's important to do our best to look after it for the long term. hope this helps.

the best thing is to see a derm or your GP. There are so many solutions for acne now but the more powerful (and effective) treatments are by prescription only.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with using "natural" products to treat acne; products containing essential oils are often oil-based creams - they need to be oil-based in order to carry the essential oils. And oil-based products are not usually what you'd want to put on active acne! All this in addition to the fact that some essential oils can be irritating and inflammatory.

Far better to see a professional skin therapist, adapt some professional-strength products into your skin -- and as previous posters have said, eliminate sugar and overly acidic foods. Basically, treat your skin and body kindly. :)

I agree that drinking water can help a lot. This keeps your face hydrated and maintain its elasticity. Eating healthy foods such fruits and vegetables would also help clear up your acne fast. :)

I recently have been getting little acne breakouts (not sure if acne but little red pimples) all over my shoulders and back, so annoying!!
I normally eat quite healthily and drink heaps of water but thinking it may be stress or something. I've been trying to cut back on wine, sugar and caffeine, and to eat a lot more green veggies and fish, and taking fish oil supplements.
Hoping it clears up soon :(

I get some now and then along my jaw line which is hormonal and on my back (not sure where that's coming from but it's usually around that time of the month).
I don't take the pill because I am allergic to the hormone and I visit my naturopath and my mum is a homeopath.
I watch what I eat to a degree, I do splurge a little hehe
I use Papulex which is fantastic, it's formulated for acne. I get the gel wash and oil free cream that doesn't clog your pores. It's worth investing in.
I also use Anti Blemish Concealer by Clinique, it's so good that I can leave it on over night if I forget and my skin is actually smoother in the morning!

check these guys out:

They are fairly new to AUS but worth a go! And their skin care stuff is nicer than using proactive that strips your face.

Hope this helps! :)

I went to the chemist and asked and was given some trial Clinique 3 step stuff. I have noticed the difference but still have to odd couple of pimples every few weeks or so. I tend to really breakout after wearing makeup so i avoid it ususally. I even got half my face done with a different type of foundation on each side to see which worked better. Again - Clinque brand. Hopefully the one i bought works like it did in the trial as i had no break outs on that side whereas the other side i had 2 , and are still having issues 2 weeks later.

Trial and error i guess
