Do you have a flat screen TV?
If yes, which one do you recommend? We're in the market for one.

We do, but I would never recommend it, it's just a cheapo brand.

We recently bought a Panasonic 42" LCD with some of the money we received from our wedding. It's awesome! We also got an entertainment system with surround sound speakers/ipod dock/dvd/radio and don't know now how we survived with our old box dinosaur for so long!

We have a plasma in the lounge and a LCD in the bedroom (both LG's) we prefer LG's not sure why. But I think plasmas are better when it comes to gaming etc. But not 100% sure.

We have a 50" LG Plasma and a smaller LCD in our bedroom. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend and the size. For example, plasmas and LCDs are going for less than $1,000 nowadays but in terms of good picture the new "in" is the LED Tv which is in the same range as the Plasma and LCD when they first came out, at the same time, now you can look into 3D tvs that support 3D when/if available.

As a female, to be honest I don't notice as much the difference as my dad, brother, FH, etc but I think if you are looking for something affordable and don't really have the knowledge to tell any different then I'll go with LCD and a good brand, they are not that expensive, I think most of them do but anyway, make sure that it comes with built in HD tuner so you can get channels like GO and 7mate (no idea if you get that in Darwin anyway, sorry)

We've just come back from JB Hifi and quite like the Hisense 40in Full HD LED LCD 100hz TV.
$993 only but the picture quality was superb! Also has the maximum stars for energy rating and has a 3 year warranty.

It's a Panasonic and it's great. I have no idea if it's plasma or LCD. I know one is better for gaming and one better for movies, but I don't remember. And to be honest, I've never been able to tell the difference. It's just a TV

This is me Chelle - people ask what we have and I say "a TV". I don't bloody know the difference!

Another fan of Samsung here though - we bought ours a couple of years ago but love it.

We have 2 one is Panasonic and one a Samsung both are Plasma. We bought one when the Beijing Olympics were on, the other a few months ago.

Deciding between LCD/Plasma/LED really depends on what you want to use it for and where in the house it is going (ie. lots of natural light? Room with more home cinema feel).

In terms of Brightness - LCD looks better in the shops and works better in a room with lots of natural light as it has a matte screen. Plasma looks better in a home theatre/darker room as it has a reflective screen.

LCDs have brighter more vibrant colours. Plasmas have warmer more realistic colours and truer blacks (higher contrast and detail in dark movies).

Plasmas are better for fast moving scenes, but better LCDs have now caught up so there isn't a huge issue with blurring like there used to be.

Generally they say though that for 37" or less LCD is recommend and for 37"+ Plasmas will perform better.

There is some good info here.

We have a 50 inch Pioneer and DH loves it.
It cost an arm and a leg to get but it's kept him happy for 2 years..
As long as it works and the picture looks good I don't mind what kind of tele we have!

ditto. we've had our samsung over 2 yrs and it was $1300 for a 42inch. at the time LCDs were about double the cost so we went with the cheaper option. plus my parents have an LCD and i definitely noticed blurring when watching anything with fast scenes. but, that's probably all improved now and prices have come down. we also have a 26inch samsung LCD in the bedroom but we don't really watch it much, just on in the morning to check the weather and maybe if I want to watch something else than what DH is watching. but we have had no problems with either.

I agree Samsung is awesome! We have 2 x Samsung LCD's & 1 x Acer LCD & 1 x Samsung LED (only just realised how many flat screens we have 8O). The LED is AMAZING!! If you haven't looked into LED I would definitely recommend that you do.
