We are lucky here that the water probably won't reach us. That being said, it is expected to peak tomorrow at 22metres! Normally this river sits at about 5 meters so it is a huge rise!!! We will be stuck at home for a few days, but shouldn't be to affected by floodwaters. We went for a drive earlier to see what was going on and if anyone needed help evacuating. At that time the water was spreading(not rising but moving further out) at about 6 inches a minute. I think the worst part for now is the waiting. Unlike the poor people in toowoomba we had warning of the floods, but it isn't even raining now, we are just waiting for the water to flow down the rivers.

Amazing picture quite pretty until you really look at it and realise that the little black things are tops of the traffic lights.

Its not just the flooding too that causing issues.. My hubby (and my 2 fur babies) are in a remote town which has been cut off predominently since early December. Whilst his town isnt expected to flood they havent gotten in any food trucks so the town is now running out of food and petrol. And his town is lucky as its the main hub there are other smaller towns that have been isolated more!

I cannot believe the impact of all this!

Now my suburb is on the list of those expected to flood! :(

Hopefully my place will be ok as I am on a hill. I'm making preparations though, just in case.

Who knows whether or not I will get to work tomorrow.

We emailed one of DH's family friends who live in Brisbane to find out whether they're safe.

She responded today and I realised she works at one of the RSPCA shelters in Brisbane and was busy evacuating animals to Dakabin.

She also said this:
When we were evacuating yesterday morning, people were still dumping animals at the shelter – bloody unbelievable!! The last report I heard was that much of the shelter was under water so will be busy once the water recedes helping with the cleaning up.

:(

This flood is pretty bad but it ain't brisbane in 1974 (i was there) or Tracy (my wife was) and the loss of life and property is pretty trivial compared to a third world disaster.

If you want to see a real Ozzie disaster, look at the annual australian road toll. 1600 dead annually and 50,000 serious injuries.

We're not very rational creatures are we?

Well then tell Mr "I was there" and it "aint no disaster" that he can kiss my ***. IF he was there he would know what we're going through. He would know that 4 of my friends have now lost everything they own. He would know that the point 8 of a metre that didn't occure doesn't mean JUST as many houses havent been affected because Brisbane is FAR MORE condensed than what it was in 74. You can tell him that I didn't think for the two days I though I was going to lose my house, watching flood water take the house in front of me and sitting on my driveway waiting to say goodbye to everything I own while I watch a space of 1 km by 3 km's wait to swallow us up was trivial, and I think it's pompous of him to be sitting there on his soapbox giving his two cents on something he has no idea of - the footage they've been playing on the news for two days IS THE SAME STOCK FOOTAGE of the SAME AREA'S at the SAME TIME. So he has no clue and no right to judge.
I do think that donations of goods are more hassell then good AT THE MOMENT, but he has just given me the ****!

clearly! sounds like a few people at your work need some actual work to do. I've deleted the comments that you posted from the emails as it only creates unnecessary pain for some WC members who are living through the floods and its current affect at this time.
