Perhaps if people have nothing positive to say they should say nothing at all, least of all speculate. Whether these floods are as bad as 74 is irrelevant. What matters is thousands of people have lost everything, material possessions can be replaced but tell someone who has seen their family get washed away or the poor police and emergency services staff who are pulling entire familes from vehicles and creeks, partially clothed from the force of the water. For the past few days all I can hear is choppers looking for victims, it is something that makes you feel sick to the core.

Nyssabee - is your house ok? I hope so.

I agree with Bride Bec. I wasn't in an affected area of Brisbane, but it still affects me in emotional ways. I see the footage on tv of people who have lost everything, I see pictures of places I love that are totally destroyed by water. I go to work and hear stories from customers about their experiences - some of whom have been evacuated and believe they have lost everything. I think it is irrelevant at this point in time to speculate about the affect and to compare this to 1974, just as it's not the time to assign blame. This is the time to unite, as a state and a nation, to support those people who have lost everything.

Thanks dude our house is thankfull fine, water rose a metre up our driveway. Lucky it peaked a metre below what they said it would! We just got water up our drains in the bathrooms and laundry which damaged some carpet but it's nothing really compared to what others in our street got. They lost everything :(
