I really like those Mr K dresses, they'll look lovely.

We're not having traditional flower girl dresses, we got silk wrap around skirts which when tied in a certain way look a bit like saris so it will be a nice Indian influence to our wedding. SO I don't think I'm much help :)

I still have to get around to booking flowers, thats the next job for me

I'm no help sorry Karile...we're not having FGs or PBs....

But, try Myer. They have some gorgeous dresses in the children's section, and quite often on special/clearance.

Also, look up Banksia Rose in the phone book, or PM me for the ladies' number...she used to have a shop in Moorabool St next to Commonwealth, but she just operates from home now.

Also try Bernice Fashions, Bridal House, and any dance shops...they might have some fairy type dresses that girls usually look quite gorgeous in!

There is a shop at Werribee Plaza that basically only sells flower girl dresses. I think it is called Lolly Pop.

Hi girls,

We had our reception booked at The Wool Exchange; however, as some of you may know, it has know gone into receivership so not only do we have to find another place, we may have also lost our deposit.

I need help finding another venue.

Hi girls,

We've deliberated over several different options.

The Sands: too far away
Spray farm: too expensive
Bellarine Estate: doesn't really float my boat. Plus you have to give a 25% no refundable deposit on booking with is ridiculously large considering what has just happened to us and our deposit!
Truffleduck: closed for renovations
Barwon edge: too pricey
Empire Grill: don't really like it
Sheraton: too pricey for what it is
Geelong football club: we hate the cats
Kilgour estate: too small
Kirrewur court: don't really like it
Mercure: too pricey (especially for what it is!)
Oakdene: too small
Royal Geelong Yacht Club: not that classy
The Beach House: under renovations

So currently we have narrowed it down to either Sailor's Rest or Dromoland House.

Sailor's Rest: We are looking at pre-dinner canapes, and then 50/50 drop of 2 entrees, 2 mains and 2 deserts plus a 4.5 hour bar package. That's $93.00 per head.

Dromoland House:
We are looking at pre-dinner canapes, and then a choice of 2 entrees, 2 mains and 2 deserts plus a 5 hour bar package. Also included is candleabra centrepieces and a bridal dressing room. That's $78.00 per head. That's EXCELLENT value for money. We probably prefer Sailor's Rest but Dromoland House is pretty and would save us in excess of $1500. We're viewing a wedding set up and meeting with their function manager tomorrow.

Has anyone had experiences at either of these two places?

Jess, I'm so sorry to hear this has happened to you & FH.

How many people are you inviting/expecting to attend?

Yes, I'm a bit biased, but we're having almost 200ppl & are having a cocktail reception at Buckley's. It's a beautiful venue, the set up is brilliant, and it's pretty decently priced for sit down - we just couldn't afford it for 200ppl! PM me if you like for prices?

I've been to Sailor's Rest for a work function - it was a boiling hot summers' day, we were packed in like sardines (and I think there was only 120 of us), but the meals were pretty good from memory!

I've not been to Dromoland House, but know someone who had their reception there, and they adored it!

Have you tried The Lakehouse @ Deakin Waurn Ponds? As I'm not too sure on your numbers (sorry if this is in a previous post), it might be too small...
There's also Peninsula Receptions in Newcomb, which I'm told is lovely, Shell Club also I've been told is lovely...
OH! I would have loved to have had my reception at the Geelong Racing Club...it's lovely there, I've been there for many functions.
Cobbin Farm is another place (contact City Hall, or look up the Yellow Pages) that is lovely, but I'm pretty sure you need to provide a caterer, I'm certain it's just a venue.
The Grovedale Hotel looks gorgeous when transformed as a wedding venue.
OH! Another obvious one...just divine too...I've been there for a sit down engagement party - so just like a wedding reception - Capri Receptions.

There's also Corio Villa; Finnigan's Place @ Rippleside; Geelong Club (which provides stunning photos, but you can only have photos there if you have your reception there)l; Le Parisien - Mason had her ceremony & reception there, I can e-mail her for details if you like; Pettavel Winery; The Heights - although I'm not too sure of the reception part, but definitely the ceremony.

That's all I can think of now...unless you know someone with property, and you can get some marquees? We were originally going to have a marquee wedding, but FH didn't realise just how hard it is to fit 200 ppl into a normal house block in Waurn Ponds (where we live!)

Let us know how you go!

Good luck with everything hun xox

Oh Jess, I'm so sorry to hear that.

We are having our reception at Finnigan's Place, at Rippleside Park (not its not a Japanese restraurant any more!). It is really beautiful as it has recently been reonvated, overlooks the bay and it has such a nice atmosphere. But it depends on how many people you are having as it isn't that big, we are only having 50 people, but they have had weddings there for 100 people. It is a tiny bit dearer than the prices you quoted, but we brought the price down having only 2 guest choices of each course (three was their standard) and having soup as an entree and wedding cake for dessert.

PM me if you need any more information.

As Hollie said, I am biased, but I am so so happy with it.

Hi All,

I'm new to this and i'm rapt ive found you guys! We are planning to get married in late november this year and somedays i love organising everything but most days it's just too overwhelming! :e_wall:

The one big and major problem i'm having is trying to find a nice location for our ceremony! Has anyone ever heard of the little church in Ceres? Anyone got any suggestions?

Jessica - We are also meeting with Dromoland house as well tomorrow! I agree the price per head is AMAZING and we are keeping our fingers crossed it's as nice as he describes... I'll let you know how we go...

I'm toying between having our wedding at home in bannockburn, or spending the extra bucks and having it at a reception house. We are having about 75 people and as we already have 2 young kids and a mortgage we are definetly on a budget!

Looking forward to your ideas and please any suggestions would be great! especially regarding catering.

Cheers,
Corinne :D
