It IS a little quiet in here.

Sounds like exciting times for you Cairnsgirl. Very envious indeed. Just want to get this wedding over and done with.
I'm still 7 months out and feel like my vendors think im hassling them by asking a question. That could be my own paranoia though.

Let me update all on waht i have been up to....

Spoke to a friend who's a jeweller on the weekend on the gold coast. He is in the middle of designing/pricing our wedding bands. So very exciting. Mine is going to be white diamonds and pink saphires. The FH's is going to be a plain platinum band.

I got my veil delivered from the US. It's a birdcage veil so i'm a bit nervous for stepping outside the square. I want to go and try it on with my dress and the dress store but worried they will get annoyed with me for trying the dress on.

We were going to have unity candles but were worried about the candles being blown out as we are getting married on the terrace at Sea Temple Resort. So will go with ring warming ceremony instead. It's only a small wedding so it will be nice to include everyone that made the trip.

The boys are going to have there suits made and FH is looking into that this week. Probably going to Kelly Country here in Sydney to get it made. They seem to be reasonabley priced for tailor made suits.

Emailed Cakes by Design (again) and still haven't heard back from them. Bit disappointing so thinking about going with another cake maker.

I'm a little worried my DJ isn't going to be 'hip' enough haha. We really want it to be a full on party as majority of the guests are late 20's early 30's so i'm worried its goign to be generic dj music. I so don't want ACDC or NKOTB belting out over the dance floor nor do i want the chicken dance etc. I know you can request not to play stuff but i am really, really concerned that the music isn't goign to be our taste. I would really like a young funky full on DJ that knows how to get this party started but have no idea in cairns. Maybe my dj will be ok....i have concerns though...anyone with suggestions on a good dj or how to manage a dj to ensure you get out of them what you want?

FH doesn't want to have name cards at each table. HE jsut wants people to know what table to go to and agrab a seat anywhere. That kinda bums me out because i had these pretty funky fans i was goign to use as name cards. I got the whole 'you keep changing your mind!!' talk the other day. It's the brides perogative though right?!

Thats about it for now.... i could probably go on but i have written the longest post in the world already.

We're not having placecards or allocated seating but we are having allocated tables- all the oldies together, cousins together and so on, so I'm just doing a list for each table with who sits on it- maybe you could use your fans for that?

Hi pathus!!!
I know exactly how you feel, about wishing it would hurry up! Now that I'm only 7-8 weeks away I'm wanting it to slow down.
Don't be stressed about hassleing vendors, I did this too, just for peace of mind. Our wedding co-ord is so nice as we pop into our place from time to time to check how it looks and to ask questions (even to see how much room there was for dancing on the verandah). I also popped up to a bridal shop trying on dresses 4 times, they were nice to me every single time and know how hard it was to find something that you love.

I'm getting my cake done by Leanne from Cake's by design. She is very popular and hugely busy I have found, last email I got from her about my cake she said she had 15 wedding's in 2 weeks!!!
I know that people are also happy with Pastry sensations in cairns. They make sponge cakes, nice and reasonably priced, I wanted the white icing a fruit cake however.

My FH just wanted everyone to sit where ever they wanted too, we are not doing place cards however we are allocating tables.

What DJ are you having and I can ask around to see if there is any feedback for you. I'm sure it will be great and everyone will have a fantastic time at your reception.

The ring warming ceremony is a lovely thought, the wedding I was a bridesmaid for did that and it was just beautiful. :)

Take care and all the very best

My FH Dj's part time and just recently did two weddings. One at the casino and the other at Angsana in PalmCove. He's young (26) and has 38 000 tracks. He is very adaptable to your style and if he doesn't have alot of the music that you like then he will source some before the day. Part of his package includes lighting, smoke machine and bubble machine if you want them.
He trades as Cairns Party Dj's and his name is Thomas. He is one of the cheapest around as he basically does it for the fun of it. His number is 0409111113 if you're interested. If you do try to call and you don't get through straight away, don't be to concerned... We own and opperate a horse riding business and while we are with customers we won't answer phones but he will get back to you within 2 hours garunteed.

although, what date is your wedding? we could be getting married on the same day!
If we are, he knows pleantly of people he can reccommend!

Hey MrsV2be
Has your FH done any gigs at the colonial club resort? We were just going to have a CD of music playing as we thought it might be too expensive to have a DJ.

Hey cairnsgirl, nah he hasn't done any gigs there yet. If you're interested and you had a budget in mind, its best to give him a call and discuss what he can do for you. :)

hi Ladies

I asked this before in this thread and now i can't find the answer and advanced search says 'DJ' is too common to search by so i am going to ask again i'm sorry.

I'm looking into again at getting a DJ that's not a party DJ but like a night club dj with the vynal and all that stuff. someone who can mix it a bit to make sure its a party and not just a wedding.

I know someone was recommended, can someone please let me know who it was? Sorry for being a pain in the behind. Really, really appreciate it!!! :D

THANKYOU!

Where are you getting married moranbah bride?
You can try Events NQ cairns or Party Hire Cairns. I'll dig out some of my other Cairns info because there is a great place you can rent vases etc and she run's it from home.
Have a good weekend

We're getting married at the Grand Mercure at Palm Cove. So exciting.... wish it would hurry up and get here.

I'm kind of having second thoughts though about the poolside ceremony that we had planned.
Does anyone from Cairns have any ideas for outdoor ceremony locations (other than the beach??)

I'm not from Cairns but i did see somewhere some couples ducking into the rainforest for the ceremony. Or maybe you could find a nice cliff top and have it on top of that with the ocean behind you.

MB - Yep - I'm still lurking   Try Annika from http://www.majesticjd.com.au for your chair sashes - I found that they were definately the cheapest and extremely helpful with a fantastic range. and if you are re thinking your ceremony venue your celebrant should have a heap of suggestions but you could try the botanical gardens, crystal cascades, the angsana chapel, the tropical zoo chapel, depending on your numbers - you can book a penthouse with beautiful views and have it decorated, some of the hotels have gorgeous gardens, there are some gorgeous parks in Palm Cove and the list is endless - good luck making your decision

unfortunately we're not using a celebrant, rather a minister that is a family friend... so no help there.
We're heading up there at the end of November so will have a look around some more at PC and see what we like. I was even thinking about Paradise Palms, but I really wanted somewhere near to the Grand Mercure so that noone would really have to travel.... we'll see what we can come up with!!
