Anyone on the Gold Coast

Fri Dec 27, 2002 6:04 pm

Hey everyone
Like a lot of people here, i am in quite daunted by the prospect of planning my wedding! We really want to be married on the beach, but obviously don't want to do it in the middle of surfers, people swimming etc - anyone got any suggestions on location. Someone suggesting nobby beach - but on a grassed area overlooking the beach - sounds lovely, but it's not ON the beach, you know!
Any help for this frazzelled bride-to-be would be fantastic!

Beach Wedding

Dear Tullycat,

I actually work in the wedding industry & am not sure regarding beach weddings, however alot of photographers that i work with will have great ideas for you.

I would try Ray Lawler Photographers - ask for Bernadette or Tres Bien photographers - ask for Michaela. These photographers seem to do alot of beach weddings & can probably help.

Best of Luck

Nic :D

Dear Tullycat
Have you looked at Narrowneck, just north of Surfers. Not too many swimmers there as there is never any flags set up there. I also think there is a bit more available parking there. Also just across the road and over a bridge is McIntosh Island. Guests could park there in the carpark and walk through to the beach....it's like only a 3 minute walk. Apart from that all the beaches are very much tourist and surfie orientated and the quieter more southern beaches eg: Tugun. Bilinga etc...are too close to the airport and you may get air traffic during the service.
Good Luck
Traci

Have you considered the northern beaches? Broadwater, Runaway Bay, Paradise Point?

We are getting married on Echo Beach or Echo Cove on the Edge of the Burleigh Heads National Park. It is right below the Elevations Restaurant and is quite secluded. I have one pic one my computer at home, but I know that if you google it you will find a photographers website with some pics taken there. I have tried to attach map view for you but having trouble. If you want to PM me I will send direct to your email.

There's a spot at Currumbin that is perfect for a wedding set up - it's called Currumbin Park I think. I saw someone setting up there last weekend actually. It's between Tugun shops and the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on Teemangum Street. It's a great spot for people to get to and right on the beach. Let me know if you need further info - I don't live too far from there.

Yeah, that is a lovely spot too. It seems to be popular and you can pretty much have that beach to yourself if you get a set up happening early enough. Would be quite handy for the reception too if you had it at Elevations. Although there are no crashing waves - not sure if you want somewhere "right on the beach" - this location is more of an inlet. I was over there a few weeks ago and there was a swimsuit model doing a photo shoot. It definitely is a great backdrop for photos even if the waves aren't crashing right there. Oh and then there's also the walk around the headland itself - there's tonnes of awesome spots for photography against black volcanic rocks and pandanus trees. I have loads of photos if you want to see that area. Just pm me.

There is a strip of beach between the Spit and Main beach that is near deserted. You could investigate that area.

We have photographed a couple of weddings in the park at the south end of Burleigh Beach just up on the cliffs. It overlooks the water. The only thing is, being a park you do get a few onlookers.

I stumbled across some fireworks people the other day. Go to http://www.alancaseyentertainment.com.au and there is a fireworks part on that website. they are based on the gold coast. The fireworks are expensive but the bands are a really awsome price.

I never actually went to a wedding there but some friends did.
First, FH cousins got married there in about...1998. lovley photo's for that era. Now my friends went there last year, said everything was fine, BUT the photo's were of the same place, same plastic flowers, same archway EVERYTHING from 1998. Yes if you didnt know what it was like there before its lovley, but to me it looks old and dated. BUT. food was wonderful, they have a great outdoor area for reception and photo's, danvce floor is huge, all looks very good. There is no accommodation really close to there and no public transport and is a bit out of the way for cabs, we used to live at upper coomera and found it hard to get cabs there.

have you thought about northern nsw? we're getting married on Casuarina beach- down near Kingscliffe. whenever we've been down there it's pretty much deserted, and i love coz you have to walk through a bushy sort of walkway to get on to the beach, so no one sees you until you're at the start of the aisle, and it also means from the beach you can't see any buildings, roads etc
