We probably won't get to the Parlour until around 8:30, but if you're still there I'll try to find you!

Hi girls! I'm in the process of ordering a wedding cake now and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?
I went to Cakes of Your Dreams yesterday and there were so many nice cakes there! Unfortunately, the cost of a two tiered cake with a medium sized funky couple and two kitchen cakes would set me back $725!! It's ultimately 150 dessert pieces...Without the kitchen cakes, it'll be $445!
Is this considered a reasonable price?

Dumb question, but what is a kitchen cake?
How many pieces does a two tiere cake feed?

I love cakes of your dreams. I think the extra expense there comes from the funky couple - doesnt the woman make them from scratch? Could you just get the tiers and find your own topper? We will get our cake from there, 2 - 3 tiers at about $370 (with our own topper), black ribbon, fairly simple.

Here's a pic of the cake:

The $445 is for a two tiers and the funky couple.
The two tiers give 50 dessert pieces.

Kitchen cake is the rest of the cake which will be in the kitchen rather than on display and served to the guests. She's quoted me $140 for each kitchen cake which also gives 50 pieces each.

$700+ seems like a lot for cakes. Could you be sneaky and just have cheesecake shop "kitchen cakes"?

RE: cakes

My brother has comissioned me to make his wedding cake (for the weekend after mine 8O ). So I jumped on youtube and watched a couple of cake decorating tutorials. For my first trial attempt (cost me about $15 for tiny cake) I was pretty successful, and it lasted for weeks! I think I'll be able to make a final for less than $100. All the tools are at Spartys in QBN.

I will also be making the toppers (the couple rock climbing) myself. I'll be making these out of oven bake polymer clay (Fimo or sculpey) which is pretty cheap, and really easy to use.

Just some cost cutting ideas :)
