I would've loved to have our reception at the Botanic Gardens. Unfortunately we thought it would be too cold in winter time :( Would be gorgeous in summer!!!

Also look at Mecca Bar in Manuka, The Chairman and Yip in Civic, Belluci's in Belconnen, Suburban (??) in Dickson.

We have the same problem with the Botanic Gardens we're planning a winter 2013 wedding (either June or August). I looked at Ainslie Football club but they have a minimum number of 80 & at the moment we've got between 40 & 50 likely to be invited. I looked on google maps & Gold Creek is actually much closer than I thought (15 minutes according to Google maps, which means not taking into account traffic on Northbourne) I've decided to leave it until early next year & contact them to get real quotes instead of a general idea off their website.

A restaurant would be good but FH & I hate the idea of entering through a shopping centre sort of area (which is where you find most restaurants)
I might actually start looking seriously at the costs & organisation related to getting caterers & decorations in to the church hall attached to the church.

I really liked the idea of our guests having the whole of Gold Creek to explore while waiting for our photos so I think that's going to be our first choice unless somewhere else comes up with a really good deal.

Thanks for all your suggestions ladies, you've given me food for thought.

Slowly going down my list of things to get organised ASAP... any recommendations would be appreciated :)

1. DJ/Band - we're still undecided which we would prefer.

2. Hairdressers - as I have a young bub, we need someone to come out and do myself, bridesmaid and my mum and maid of honour (both have short hair = easy)

3. Cars - I have my heart set on 3 newer style VW beetles as our wedding cars, but have contacted all the hire car places and have come up with nothing. Would consider even just having a photoshoot with any style beetle but unsure as to who to contact for that

Hi would highly recommend Stan from 3D Entertainment for the DJ, I think he cost us $700 for 6 hours and the two guys he sent out to actually do our wedding were really fantastic, had everyone up on the floor, played all the songs we wanted them to etc. Stan is extremely knowledgeable and will be able to help you out with song selections if you get stuck.

I got Mira from Obsess Hair Studio to do my hair, my maid of honour, and at the last minute she also kindly did my mum's hair after she had a bit of a disaster trying to do it herself :) Mira is awesome, lovely lady and I absolutely loved my hair. She will come to you on the day.

With the cars, maybe you could see if there's a beetle car club in ACT/NSW and see if you can get some volunteers. Otherwise I like the previous poster's idea of putting notes under windscreen wipers :)

Hey girls

Has anyone been to/heard of a wedding reception at "A Bite to Eat' in Chifley? Any photos anywhere?

If you've heard of any similar casually/funky restaurants in Canberra that hold wedding reception then I'd love to hear about them :)

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your suggestions re: DJs and cars.
We selected a hairdresser from my hometown and she is willing to travel!

I'm trying to think of some nice locations for photos if it rains... I'm a fairly new Canberran and don't know many.

You could try inside the Hyatt for photos? Or the national gallery etc.

My dress arrived! Tried it on this weekend, it fits perfectly! :) so that's one less thing to worry about. I also ordered our wedding bands so now I can have a little wedding break over Christmas and then get back to organizing!

hi - does anyone know if the new building at Grazing Gundaroo has been finished?? We were there in March and they said it would be finished in June. There is still nothing on their website!! I would go and check - but I live in London! So just thought I would ask in case someone knew!!

Thanks.

Loverly!!!!! I had the same- very similiar- just becareful u might get a bend in it when you sit down :( I did but at the same
Time I needed to have my lace tightened. And the bent part stayed like that for the rest of the night( happened after I sat Down at the reception).
