Hi,

I'm getting married in Darwin on 16th June 07. So far we've booked the reception, ceremony location, celebrant. Not having a photographer - too expensive. I've ordered by dress (from Brisbane). Yet to find a hairdresser & makeup person.
Starting to get excited!

YAHHH. Another Darwin person. We are just not that into weddings up here are we!! Anyway, ours is in September after being changed 3 times!!!! We were worried about the heat but think it'll be ok.
I have nothing booked either, venue, celebrant and that's it. We are looking for a photographer also but what you get for your money here is terrible. Looking at people from the Darwin Camera Club who'll take the photos, put it on a CD and that's it. It is much, much cheaper. We also want a video but the only demo I have seen was so bad it was embarrasing. Are you having one?
Oh...also there is a Darwin Wedding Show on the 23rd of Febeuary ( I found out from a florist). So...that might help us!
Where are you getting married at?
Looking forward to sharing tips in the planning...there is just no choice up here!!!

no video for us, we'll just rely on what friends take. I prefer still photos though. Hadn't thought about the camera club. let me know how you go, all we want is about 1 hr worth of photos. We're really working to a budget and the cheapest I could find was $650.
We're having the cermony at Parliament House, then small reception at the Crown. All nice & close (not hiring cars, walking to & from ceremony).
Got my shoes the other day from Target for $27. Great buy!
I agree, there isn't much choice at all up here 8O

Hi all

I'm living in on the Northern Beaches in Sydney but will be getting married up in Darwin next September (08), and thought I'd reactivate this post :)

My fiance is from Darwin, and we wanted a laid back wedding destination where the southerners could come and spend a weekend.

We are mad sailors, and trying to incorporate this into theming. We've booked Pee Wees at the Point for the reception, and the ceremony will take place on the "sandbar", at dead low tide of course!

Any ideas / suggestions would be most welcome.

Hi there

Your website looks great, and Lake Bennett will be a fantastic wedding location.

Thanks for your offer of help, it's not easy organising a wedding interstate. We have a "quasi wedding planner" (a friend) who is proving to be a great resource, but is great to get feedback from a bride to be.

Can you possibly recommend any of the following:

- wedding cake stores / designers?
- bombaniere (sp?) / decorators?
- marquee hire, chairs (for the ceremony), chair covers and sashs for reception?

We have booked the photographer http://www.capturephotography.com.au and had a friend meet with her, so fingers crossed it turns out ok, sight unseen.

We have also been recommended http://www.moonshadowvillas.com to base ourselves?

Have you got much left to organise?

Cheers

Hi boat bride

Thanks for the compliment about the web site - its been fun outting together and its also handy for letting all our interstate guests know what will be happening that weekend.

We have also booked Amy from Capture Photography - we were impressed with her style and originality as we didn't want the typical posed wedding photos (well maybe a few to keep the mums happy!)

Moonshadow Villas looks gorgeous. Its basically in town and only a five minute drive to East Point - so it will be nice and central for you.

Here is the info that I could find for you:

Wedding Decorators and Marquee/Chairs etc

The Wedding Decorators - Koulla Kosmidis 0409325472 or 0889325472
Territory Events Hire 89471990

Cakes

Cakes by Gayle 0889321586 0438156692 cakes4u2@bigpond.net.au
Kurts Cakes 0889415033 0889422122 kurtscakes@bigpond.com.au
Rachaels Designa Cake 0410997111 http://www.rachaelsdesignacake.com.au

We are probably going to organise stubby coolers for our bonboniere which we will order over the net. I don't think that there are any locals who specialise in bonboniere but the Kakadu Winery offer products such as mango wine etc with personalised labels ph 0889311166 kakaduwinery@bigpond.com

Hope that some of this helps!

Cheers

Thanks Simone, you are very helpful :)

I've contact Kakadu Winery as the wine is a great idea, and uniquely 'Australian'.

Good to hear you've also booked Amy, we also prefer candid rather than posed shots and her photos look great.

Where are you off to on your honeymoon? We are still deciding between Mauritius and Sabah, Borneo. Sabah was easy to get to until Royal Brunei Airlines decided to suspend all flights from Darwin. We only have about 8 days away as we have to be back for a regatta in Sydney on the Oct long weekend, so easy to get to is a must :)

Have a nice weekend.

Hi Nicole

We will probably finish up our save the dates - which I want to send out with Christmas cards in early December and that is probably the only wedding stuff we will be doing.

Apart from that a normal weekend of housework and catching up with friends.

We are probably going to go to Tasmania for two weeks for our honeymoon and then spend a week in Melbourne catching up with friends and family (mine) who couldn't make it to the wedding.

Glad that I was able to help. I like the idea of Kakadu Wines - but FH is really keen on stubby coolers and there are so few wedding related things that he is keen on so I agreed!

Enjoy the weekend

Hi Girls! I'm just wondering how you're going with your preparations? I live in Gove and if you think it's difficult planning a wedding in Darwin, try planning (and holding) a wedding here! :-D

My biggest hurdle at the moment is photography... I have a few avenues to chase up locally but found the link earlier in the thread to Capture Photography (I'm assuming based in Darwin?) which could possibly be my best bet at this stage for something as professional as I can get.

Look after yourselves with TC Helen on her way to you right now!

Hi MadHatter, welcome to the Darwin thread - not many of us Brides planning a wedding in the NT at the moment on here!

Capture is based in Darwin, but will travel anywhere. We are getting married at Lake Bennett and I know that Amy has travelled to other parts of the NT to do weddings.

Gove is so beautiful - yuo would have some great places to take photos.

Getting ready for Cyclone Helen now - should be a wet and windy night in Darwin tonight!

Hi mrsdayztobe! Lake Bennett looks lovely! Will you be getting married on a weekend so you can make the most of the area with your guests? Are you having a large wedding? Gove have some beautiful bush locations and I'd really like to have some bush photos so FH and I will be going for a drive on Sunday (depending on the weather) to see what we can find that will be pretty close. Our ceremony will be in a lovely garden with lots of trees which will be really green by then (first week in June), and then the reception at one of the four restaurants (if you can call them that) on a huge grass area at the back so it will be all open, lit with lanterns overhead and tea lights on the tables. It's getting close now and I've been excited for a while but FH is starting to get excited now too which is really nice. The first thing he said after the count down on NYE was "we get married this year babe!"... we've been engaged for over 2 years now. :-)

All the best for a windy night, I'm jealous because I ADORE and am obsessed with cyclones ever since Ingrid clipped our wings in 2005 and I even toyed with the idea of hopping on a flight over to Darwin for the weekend just to experience it! haha! FH would never let me do that!

When is your wedding? I'll be keeping an eye out for pictures from you and am looking forward to hearing about your progress!

Hi everyone. I am getting married in Darwin on the 11th July and am nearly organised. We are having our ceremony at Parliment house and the reception at cornucopia. I have a great florist in Palmerston, it is called Whoops a daisy, she can talk the leg off a chair but she was half the price of the other florists that I spoke to.

Hi Swanky2008

Congrats it sounds like you're ready to go! Do you have a number or website for the florist you recommend? Who is making your cake? I The cheapest quote for a simple cyclinder cake has been $420 (which seems very high!).

I'm trying to plan my wedding from sydney, so any help/advice is much appreciated.

Cheers

Whoops a daisy number is 0449 192 452 her name is Heather. Of course I have not seen my flowers yet, but she sounds very good and she is cheap and her shop is nice. I am not that fussed about flowers as they die the next day anyway. I didn't want to spend thousands on them when they do only die. I was quoted about $350 fro 2 bouquets and 2 buttonholes from one florist an she quoted only $170. Of course I went with her. We decided to get fiance's mum to make it for us as we didn't want to spend that on a cake either. Alawa bakery do make nice cakes, not traditionally weddingy though if you are after the big wedding cake experience. Be careful with kakadu winery if they make Mango wine as it is hideous! I have only 10 weeks today until my wedding. Very excited now...
