i must have got the crap lady. i went in by myself just for a browse and decided to try two dresses.
i had to ask for assistance because i wasn't sure whether i could just pick out a dress and try it out without help.

she put me in one of those changing cubicles and there was a guy right in front of mine... she told me to undress, then opened the curtain without being discreet...and this guy...hopefully he was daydreaming but i could've sworn he had a clear view of the cubicle!!!

then she helped me put the dress on and showed me the mirror. but that was it... no comments, no feedback...it was just like "yup, you got the dress on, now take it off!" kinda feeling. so.. i left thinking that was a good place for cocktail/BM dresses but i'm definitely not considering buying MY dress from them.

i didn't realise there was a nicer lady available :(

YES PLEASE, START AN S&T! i can't find any other Darwinite's S&T.... i need to be locally inspired!
are you meeting Nikky to check out portfolio/pictures of previous events?

Yeah sounds like you got the dodgy woman! What colour hair did she have? The nice one has short blonde cropped hair, was really good and gave comments on all the dresses we tried on. Did you go on the weekend or during the week? Maybe thats why??

Meeting with Nikky to sort out the exact times of the ceremony and stuff, check out the actual room and I'm assuming she'll show us the pics?

If I have time tomorrow I might just start a S&T..... maybe

That sucks! Have you paid a deposit? You wont get that back will you?? Have you looked at the cheaper meal options? I actually like them better than the more expensive ones. And like I said if you decided to do the decorations yourself it would possibly be cheaper. I mean mine are pretty simple, not sure how far you want to go when it comes to decorations?

i'm waiting for my MOH to get some quotes from event companies, to see how much we can save if we choose the cheaper meal option and DIY decor.
but i think when we thought of looking for cheaper options, it could mean possibly having it somewhere else (like someone's backyard??) and catering.... instead of a fancy hotel :?:
i dunno..... i would love to stick to the current plan but $$$$$$ situation is not looking so good.

anyway, i'm also looking out for a casual job, possibly 1 weeknight and 1 weekend...... hopefully i can find one soon!

Well I was originally thinking of having my ceremony in a park and the reception at Cazalys or something. But my mother wasnt too keen on that so said she'd chuck in $6000 if we have it at the casino! My partners mum is chucking in $3000 and his father is chucking in another $3000 so that pretty much covers the ceremony and reception. We just need to pay for the other things like suits, dresses, cake, celebrant etc etc

Even going through an event company can get pretty expensive, theres a **** of decorations you can get from ebay at reasonable prices. All you need is someone to set it up I guess, thats where my mums really come in handy

Hi Girls,
Drinkyoupretty noticed that I recently got married in Darwin and suggested that I say hi!
We had our wedding ceremony at Parliament House Gardens (Liberty Square), which was gorgeous and only by chance. We had booked civic park but the council dug 3 huge holes in the garden 3 days before the wedding! In the end it was a blessing, the backdrop at liberty square was amazing and just perfect.
We had our reception at Ten Litchfield, this was great as well and the food was so good!
We got our cake from Cakes by Gayle in Driver :D , we had 3 flavours, chocolate, carrot and fruit, it was lovely.
I bought my dress from Dressy Dress which was a surprise find and the 4th dress I tried on. Serena at the Big Day was lovely and had some amazing gowns but I didn't feel that the big gowns was very me. I'm plus size (size 18) and felt like a toilet roll doll in lots of dresses!! I ended up with a Henri Josef dress which I loved and felt amazing in all day.
Flowers were from Whoops a Daisy also out at Palmerston (we don't live out in Palmerston but had some amazing quotes from both Gayle and the florist Heather) and Heather was great. We had Gerbera's which isn't very wedding like but I wanted the wedding to be colourful and fun which it was! My girls wore purple cooper street dresses and bright orange shoes.
I'll post some photos for you girls tomorrow if you're interested, let me know.
I hope that your wedding planning is going well and you are all enjoying the process.
Thanks,
Mardi.

well, after being stuffed around by skycity and other issues regarding wedding planning...i receive inside information that the dates for the V8s next year are going to be...................on my wedding weekend~!!!!!! ^#$^@#% !@%%23 62$^@$^@#
this news just devastated me.

we've had a crisis discussion and we've decided to cancel our booking with skycity.. so we're basically back at square one again.
we've decided to not discuss anything wedding-related for the next few days.. and....just...pretend like we JUST got engaged, i guess?!?!

i don't know what to do. a part of me feels like i can't just stop planning my wedding, i feel like i need something to grasp....... but..i just don't know!!!

*sigh* ok i had to let it out. sorry should have done this in the chamber!

Oh I assumed you knew that, otherwise I would have said something. June is the worst month to get married because everything is happening, thats why I was soooo glad when someone dropped out in May :D Having said that my friends got married V8 weekend last year, it was all good the only problem was accomodation is pretty expensive and you have to book in early. Hope none of your guests from overseas had booked their flights yet 8O Do you get your deposit back or not?? you could always defer it to a different date?? If you still want to do it all next year you might have to think about it now seeing as alot of places are booked out already.... Goodluck with whatever you decide :D

Hi Ladies,
A lot has happened on here since I last posted :) We have had a few changes in our plans!

So now our wedding details are as follows:

DATE: 31 / 12 / 2010
CEREMONY: Speakers Green - Parliament House
Late afternoon ceremony, just as the sun is setting
RECEPTION: Vibe Hotel - Darwin Waterfront
It's a funky new hotel we fell in love with. Cheap, Great atmosphere for a young couple....
FLOWERS: Whoops - a - Daisy (red roses)

I have been shopping around with Luckyinlove (Haha I don't know if she realises this is me yet).... and getting a few more ideas. Luckyinlove and I spent over an hour with Heather at whoops - a - daisy getting ideas, and she is so lovely. Highly recommend her!

Hope all your wedding planning is going well.

you're very organised, Mugglebunnie... :tick:
i went for Vibe/Medina's opening and liked the look of Vibe hotel. i enquired at Vibe when i was looking for a venue, and they told me they don't really do weddings so look elsewhere.... hmmm....strange...

elle, i did know that June-July-August are busy times in Darwin but based on recent years, we were hoping the 19th of June would not clash with any of the two major events. It's easier to rule out Darwin Cup as it's the first Monday of August but it's very hard to predict the V8's. Anyway, we only chose 19 June because that was the date Skycity was available. Otherwise it would have been too early or too late in the year.

i had a relaxing weekend with FH and there was no wedding talk, until Sunday evening. we kinda like the idea of renting a beautiful property for the week and having a backyard wedding. but i can't seem to find a beautiful property! i've emailed Mandalay, Villa La Vue and Feathers Sanctuaryand they have all responded that they won't allow functions. does anyone have any suggestions?

Yay, thanks mugglebunnie you've just reminded me to go checkout flowers!! Was going to go whoops a daisy a few weeks ago but seem to have forgotten all about it! :o

I've been kinda over it, seeing as pretty much everything is now organised. I dont know what to do with myself anymore :? We had a meeting with our wedding celebrant the other day to sign the paperwork and decide on some vowels, so thats done now.

Also went and picked out a ring for FH but have to wait awhile for that because they have to order his size in. Other than that all thats left is to do is decide on bridesmaid dresses, flowers and the photographer and cake.... waiting until after the expos to book the last 2. What have I missed??
