Hi, I'm another that had a multicultural affair. I'm Aussie with German background and dh is Fijian Indian. We had both a Catholic wedding because that is what i have always wanted and a hindu ceremony in Fiji because thats what dhs parents really wanted and we were happy to do it. It would have been great to combine the two but it can be really hard to get everything you want in there. But in saying that loved having 2 days :) I still have to put up the hindu photos, finally got good copies.

We also get the "your going to have such cute caramel coloured babies!"

I am chinese and DH is australian. When DH first took me home to see his parents, I was a bit scared as they live in a small town. I remember DH telling me that I would know if they don't like me and that made me even more nervous!!! 8O Was stressing about nothing cos they turned out to be very nice! (stupid DH for scaring me!!!!). My sister isn't so lucky with her future in laws. She is dating an australian guy too (been together for 2 years). She says her boyfriend's mum already doesn't like her cos she's asian!!!!!

Our families had never met before the wedding and I had been stressing about table arrangements etc. It turned out I was stressing for nothing as they got on very well! They introduced themselves and everything! I doubt they will see each other that much so I'm not worried about it anymore!

OOh I just found this thread and got excited as we are having a multicultural wedding too!

I'm from Afghanistan and my fiance is half Aussie/half Macadonian...the families have gotten along really well so far!
and my family have been very supportive even though it's kinda going against the norm for an afghan girl to be marrying outside their culture 8O

the only issue which has come up so far is our mums being nervous about whether there is enough of their own cultural influences on the day (can't be too aussie/too Macadonian/ or too afghan) lol...

But I think we've managed to balance it out

Lovely to read everyone elses posts too :D

Soni got me into this thread which had died down a bit for a couple of months.

I'm south american and FH is Australian. The only family I will have is my parents and brother who are travelling to the wedding and they are not fussed about what happens although we will be incorporating a couple of latin american details for example the first bit of our bridal dance and FH has gone to extensive lenghts to find upbeat spanish music that people will dance to without finding it too weird.

In general people look at me weird, not us as a couple (at least it never ocurred to me  ) and some Australians have a problem with my name at first and maybe sometimes when I speak too fast, other than that we're all good, his family have accepted me and they have not really had a say in our wedding planning.

I've just found this thread! How awesome! I'm Indonesian and FH is Dutch/English/Aussie :D

I also feel like people stare and it does get annoying at times. I'm really short 153cm and FH is a giant at 194cm, so maybe they are just staring at our height difference. But what I do majorly hate is when we go on holidays (especially Thailand) I feel like people think I'm a local and I picked up this white dude. Its really upsetting and other white guys with Thai girls look at FH and they look at him and kinda nod?! WTF is with that?!

We are actually having 3 ceremonies this October. A Islamic ceremony, a "white" wedding + reception and a traditional wedding!! I'm getting more excited now! :D

Ooh, that would annoy me royally!

Thailand was interesting for us, everyone thought my hubby was Thai and would speak to him in Thai, much to his bafflement. A lot of the local people we spoke to were very excited that an aussie girl married a thai boy...and then they heard him speak with his ocker accent 8)

Can't wait to see photos from your 3 ceremonies, that would be such an amazing experience! What does a tradational Indonesian ceremony entail?
